John Krier, 89, movie industry analyst LOS ANGELES John Krier, a leading movie industry analyst whose box office reports were closely watched by Hollywood moguls and film fans, died Saturday at age 89. MacKay is heavily favored to prevail in the Sept. 1 primary but needs 50 percent plus one vote to avoid a runoff a month later. Bush named Secretary of State Sandra Mortham as his pick for lieutenant governor last November, but she was forced to drop off the ticket in January after a series of revelations that raised ethical questions about her management of the Cabinet office. Buddy MacKay, the Democratic gubernatorial front-runner, may be looking at primary challenger Rick Dantzler as his running mate in what party officials believe would be the Democrats' best chance to defeat Jeb Bush this fall. Neither campaign would dismiss the possibility Tuesday of a MacKay-Dantzler ticket. Gubernatorial candidates have until July 17 to name their running mates. "This is a process where the campaign is going to find a good running mate," said MacKay's campaign spokeswoman Michelle Kucera. "When we have that person, we'll announce it." Party insiders who asked not to be identified said the possibility of a MacKay-Dantzler ticket has been actively discussed in recent weeks. Both men have been encouraged to consider the idea. State Democratic Party chairman Mitch Ceasar said a MacKay-Dantzler ticket would make a formidable opponent for Bush, who has outraised MacKay 3-to-l in fund-raising through the end of March. "I certainly think any combination of any of them on the ticket would be significant," Ceasar said. Dantzler, state Rep.

Keith Arnold state senator from Winter Haven, would provide the 65-year-old MacKay with a moderate, energetic running mate with proven voter appeal along the heavily populated Interstate 4 corridor in central Florida. Dantzler said Tuesday he has not discussed the idea with MacKay, who could not be reached for comment. DEATHS Information in the Deaths column is printed free of charge. CALL NOW The Associated Press JACKSONVILLE The search for a new University of North Florida president reopened Tuesday with higher education Chancellor Adam Herbert blasting the state's Sunshine laws for what he says is a lack of better candidates. The university had scheduled a meeting Tuesday morning to announce its new president. But two of the four candidates withdrew from consideration, and Herbert said he wasn't happy with the remaining two.

Herbert said he was disappointed that more sitting presidents and provosts from larger institutions did not apply for the post, which was vacated when Herbert became chancellor in January. A consultant will be hired and to identify six new candidates. With the decision to reopen the search, Herbert said the target will be to have a president on board by the spring term of 1999.
