4C SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2004 THE TIMES shreveporttimes.com BOSSIER 41, MANSFIELD 8 Haughton rolls up Bolton TT High School Football: Week 3 9 I 1 -oi Airline thumps Natchitoches By David West Special to The Times By Mark Barnard Special to The Times HAUGHTON Senior running back Justin Jetton rushed for 128 yards and four touchdowns, and Haughton's defense held Bolton to 84 yards of total offense as the fourth-ranked Class 4A Buccaneers knocked off the Bears here Friday night Haughton also overcame several mistakes, being penalized 14 times for 95 yards. The defensive line was about the only bright spot for us tonight," Haughton head coach Rodney Guin said. "We had a lot of lack of concentration out here, and well have to fix some things if we're going to be any better than we are." Led by nose tackle Daniel 1 Mi -1 4 ill, if -si MP Callle ReameThe times Mansfield's Quinton Howard (left) and Chris Anderson (right) take down Bossier's Corey George on Friday night. NATCHITOCHES A rash of penalties and turnovers wasn't enough to stop Airline Friday as the Vikings ran over Natchitoches Central 31-7 in a noiKlistrict high school football game at Turpin Stadium on Friday. Airline (3-0) had two punt return touchdowns called back and fumbled the ball away three times.

But the Vikings overcame that by rushing for 210 yards in, the first half and holding the Chiefs (0-3) to negative yards rushing until the fourth quarter. "We made a lot of mental mistakes tonight but kept fighting and fighting," said Airline coach Mike Greene. "We can't continue to make those kind of mistakes and win. We were lucky to overcome them." A blocked field goal late in the second quarter turned the game around. Trailing 10-7, the Chiefs drove deep into Airline territory and had an apparent touchdown wiped out by an illegal procedure penalty.

NCHS wasn't able to punch the ball in again and Andy Adams' 23-yard field goal was blocked with 2:20 to go in die first half. On first down, Airline's Cordaro Green broke two tackles and ran 43 yards to the Chiefs 37. Five plays later, he ran through Chiefs tacklers for 16 yards to the 4. After Matt Angel was tackled for a 1-yard loss, Green scored on a 5-yard run with 24 seconds to play in the half to increase Airline's lead to 17-7. "One thing that is obvious to me is that we aren't doing the fundamentals of blocking and tackling," said Chiefs Coach Mike Cicslak.

"Believe me, we work on it That is something that has to come from within." Natchitoches took over and opted not to down the ball to end the half, which was costly. Stevenson Jones, who was moved from, quarterback to tailback this week, fumbled on first down and Jordan Montgomery recovered for the Vikings at the Chiefs 14. On third down, Angel completed a Jtyard pass to Andre Allen to put Airline ahead 24-7 with five seconds left in the first half. Allen scored Air: line's initial touchdown on a 71-yard run midway through the, second quarter He had punt returns of 58 and 47 yards for toulchdowns called back. Airline got the only score of the second half on a 6-yard pass from Angel to Jimmy.

Dotson ran, passed and caught the football to ignite the Raiders' offense to a 30-16 non-district victory over Byrd in a clash of city 5A teams. The victory raided Huntington's record to 2-1 while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-2.

In the game, George rushed 24 times for 140 yards. "We were kind of rocky in the first half with our offense," George said.

"We knew we could play as a ballclub." Robinson scored on a 10-yard run to push the Bearkats' lead to 10-0. Then, later in the second quarter, Bossier's Brown scored on a 15-yard run for a 17-0 lead that the Bearkats took to the locker room at the half. Brown rushed 16 times for 149 yards in the game. The offensive line came out and blocked for us," Brown said. "If we can just come out as a team we can win every game because we believe in ourselves.

The Bearkats, though, weren't finished. Robinson scored on a 21-yard run for a 24-0 lead in the third quarter "It was a good game," Bossier coach Billy Don McHalffey said. "We were a little shaky in the first, half." Indeed, the Bearkats (3-0) led just 3-0 at the of the first quarter on a 22-yard field goal from Jonathan Bailey.1 "We needed to score early and often," McHalffey said "Mansfield's got a good ballclub. Bossier quarterback Dcmondray Bossier has two backs rush for more than 100 yards.
