Seal Memorial Award, presented annually to DAV and DAV Auxiliary volunteers at VA Medical Centers. The two were honored for their work at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. Shanks, a member of DAV Chapter 30, has volunteered at the medical center for 12 years and worked more than 2,300 hours helping wheelchair patients get to appointments and clinics. McNabb, a member of DAV Chapter 30 Auxiliary, has been a volunteer since 1991 and worked more than 6,200 hours in radiology and pharmacy. Lucent Technologies' Business Communications Systems factory in Shreveport has received ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. The facility has also been recommended for re-certification by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) achieving the top-rated "Star" status in their Voluntary Protection Program. ISO certification is an international recognition that a company has voluntarily met strict quality and environmental management standards. The Shreveport Provisioning Center manufactures and distributes voice, data and Internet protocol terminals. The OSHA Voluntary Protection Program is comprised of program elements demonstrated to reduce the incidence and severity of workplace illnesses and injuries at work sites where these programs are an integral part of daily operations.
