With the popularity of NASCAR Stock Car racing combined with the appeal of pickup trucks, the combination of the two would seem to be a natural attraction. It was a battle royale to the checkered as the No.3 of Gary Sanders finally made the pass on the Hot, Hot No.53 of Buddy Duckett on the last lap. Also in the hunt was the No.25 of Gary Baker in the 15 lap event. Coming off another Feature win two weeks ago, Sanders was once again eager to edge up to the pay window.

Seems that it was not too long ago, I overheard Sanders commenting to officials, "I guess I'm not ever gonna win a race here!" As I've said many times, Lone Star Speedway is one of the finest racing facilities in the nation, and it would appear i Current Mailing Address: (Number and Street) (City, State and Zip Code) Current Telephone Number: Social Security Number: Mark Mims Dates of Employment with Trinity (if known) Featherlite Southwest Tour event. Portland Oregon Speedway will hold the next event on August 19th, along with a NASCAR Winston Northwest Tour race. Other exhibitions will be held later at Saugus Speedway in Santa Clarita, Calif, and Tucson, Arizona's Raceway Park. Portland's track will be the longest track on the exhibition schedule at one-half mile. France also said that NASCAR has discussed the Supertruck Tour with Phoenix International Speedway, Richmond International Raceway, Martinsville Speedway, Indianapolis Raceway Park and the Milwaukee Mile, and that tracks are excited about hosting the events in 1995.

At over $60,000 a copy, without the gun rack, this isn't your regular truck to take to the deer lease. Popular trucks such as the Chevrolet and GMC 1500 and Dodge 1500, and the Ford F-150 are expected to compete in the series. These lowered and much more aerodynamic racers will be powered by 358cid motors with a 9:5:1 compression ratio and will weigh 3400 lbs. Wheelbase is setat 112inches. More on NASCAR Pontiac's race teams will get a sneak peek at the 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP before it goes into final production.

Teams such as Sabates Racing (Kyle Petty and Bobby Hamilton) and Bill Davis (Labonte) and Petty Enterprises, as well as Pennzoil's Chuck Rider, will give their opinion on the cars racing ability. The 1996 Grand Prix GTP will make it's big debut at the 1996 Winston Cup Daytona 500 season opener. Local dirt Although the rain came last Saturday night, and Lone Star Speedway had to call the Feature events in the Late Models and IMCA's, fans were treated to one of the best 'A' Main races in the Street Stock Class I've ever seen in years of hanging out at the tracks. FREESAVE40oray Bill France, reigning President of NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing) said the Supertruck Series of Racing will make it's debut later this year on the west coast. Featuring American-made, full-size trucks built especially for racing, the Supertruck Series will run exhibition races this summer and become a touring series in 1995.

"We feel the time is right for a touring truck racing series," said France. "Trucks are extremely popular in the United States and sales figures show that one truck is sold for every two cars. Most truck owners enjoy motorsports; I think this is a natural." The interest in the Supertrucks seem to be running at an incredible rate. France added, "We've already had discussions with radio and television networks, and we fully expect (that) coverage in 1995." Trucks are already being built to compete in the series and teams are expected to emerge, from many different areas of motorsports. Richard Childress, Owner of the GM Goodwrench Racing Team of Winston Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt said, "The series looks very interesting.

I think NASCAR's decision to sanction the pickup series is definitely a real step forward for motorsports." The series is scheduled to debut with an exhibition race on July 30th at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, in conjunction with a NASCAR that the caliber of dnvers coming to LSS are in the same league. For instance, in the IMCA South Central Division, covering six states and 42 tracks, Lone Star Speedway hosts not only the first and second place drivers in the division's points race, but seventh and ninth as well. In first with 514 points is Blanchard, La. driver Billy Robinson in the No.01 IMCA. Second with 450 points is Bossier City's No.8 of Gene Boyter.

Seventh place belongs to the No. 14 of Allan Screws with 366, and in ninth spot with 362 points is the No.50 of Steve Ward. Good luck to these Lone Star Speedway drivers in their quest for the South Central Division IMCA Championship. Final note The fledging NASCAR Supertruck Series sure seems like a good opportunity for MOPAR to get back into the limelight of NASCAR. I can already see the Dodge with that big V10 motor, with Valvo-line on the side of the bed.
