THURSDAY, JAN. 20. 1972 WOMEN EDUCATORS MEET Zeta chapter of Delu Kappa Gamma, honor society for women educators, met Monday night, January 10, in the First Christian church hall in Guthrie Center. A dinner was served by the Martha Circle of the church and a business meeting and gram followed. Lurine Irwin of YJB and Ruth Soper of Bagley were hostesses.

Lila Jean Jensen of Audubon presided at the business meeting. Topics for a short rap session included some teaching problems pertinent to all levels. "Don't fence us a program conducted by the professional affairs, committee, Evelyn Clark of Casey, Norma Stamen of Guthrie Centex and Mary Brobst of TJB, featured the role played by outstanding women and their contributions to society. Relevant illustrative material, including a book display, ers of Nobel prize awards and clippings supplemented the presentations of the place and importance of women in the profession. Attending, in addition to the above mentioned, were Phyllis Nance of Bayard; Estella Baden and Cecil Kilgore of Guthrie Center, -30- ANMVERSARY MASS Mr and Mrs Mike Feeney were honored on their 40th wedding anniversary Tuesday evening with a mass in their home celebrated by Father James Freeman.

Present were their children, Mr and Mrs James Gingery and family of Churdan; Mr and Mrs Eddie Feeney and family of Boone and Mr and Mrs Jerome Feeney of Omaha. Also present were Mr and Mrs Walt Finnegan of Yale, who were their wedding attendants. -30- MRS KINNICK EN- tertained at an all day quilting and dinner Tuesday. Guests were Mesdames A Mary Calvert, Winked Bar-'" rett, Slaybaugh and Elick Stewart. DRIVE TO ARRIVE ALIVE! ATTEND DISTRICT LIBRARY MEETING The Metropolitan Area of cooperating libraries held a meeting in the Jefferson Public Library Monday morning.

Rod MacDonald, Rhonda Ortale and Ethel Beeler of Des Moines addressed the meeting. There was discussion of pending legislation. Also presented was a method of acquiring cassetts at a cooperative buying discount. Each library in the area now has a new cassett player for use of Books for the rotating collection of the area were chosen and lunch was served at the Elks Lodge. Attending from Bayard were Mrs A Robinson and Mrs Jones, librarians and Mrs Ken Robinson, trustee.

Present from Jamaica were Mrs Charles Lowry, librarian, and Mrs Lebren Fox, trustee. -30- WORLD Mr and Mrs Howard A Herron of Albany, Ga, are parents of Eric Scott, boxn January 4. He weighed six pounds, 11 ounces. He joins twin sisters, Sheila and Sherri, one-year- old. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Beryl A Henon of Coon Rapids and Mr and Mrs Fred Benson of Okinawa.

His great grandmothers are Mrs Bertha Herron of Coon Rapids and Mrs Joseph Benson of Albany. The father is currently on a Mediterranean sea cruise on the aircraft carrier, the USS Independence. -30- MR AND MRS MAX TITUS OF Clarion were aturday overnight and Sunday guests of Mrs Florence Beardsley, mother of Mrs Titus. DONNA SLAYBAUGH OF Greenfield was a weekend guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs Slaybaugh. MELINDA BUHR WAS A WEEK- end guest of Mr and Mrs Charles Davis in Des Moines.

He had spent a leave with Mr and Mrs Harold Schnetter in Carroll. Mrs Schnetter is his mother and he is a grandson of Mr and Mrs Earl Lewis of Bayard. Airman Daniel Cretsingex, son of Mr and Mrs Samuel Cretsinger of Coon Rapids, has completed his air force basic training at the Air Training Command's Lackland AFB, Texas.

He has been assigned to Keesler AFB, Miss, for training in the air traffic control field 0 Cretsinger, a 1970 graduate of the Coon Rapids high school, attended Iowa Central Community college in Fort Dodge. -30- MR AND MRS JAY SHELEY of Guthrie Center and Mr and Mrs Lloyd Calder were Sunday evening guests of Mr and Mrs Mel Sheley, Chad and Casey in Altoona. The Mel Sheleys had returned from a vacation with relatives in Tucson, Ariz. MRS MARY CALVERT ENr tertained at dinner Sunday. Guests were Mr and Mrs Bernard Bellcock of Rockwell City and Mr and Mrs Darrell Bower.

LESTER CARRICK HAD A check up with his doctor in Des Moines Friday. MR AND MRS WILLIAM WEN- strand of Essex were Wednesday overnight guests of Mr and Mrs Ken Robinson. Mr Wenstrand was home for the holidays and returned to Ghana Tuesday. MRS HAROLD FISCUS, LINDA and Craig were Monday dinner guests of Mrs Fred Cretsinger in Coon Rapids. MR AND MRS TOM THOMAS and Holly of Mt Carroll, 111, and Tim Thomas of Ames were weekend guests in the Lincoln Thomas home.

Mr and Mrs Walter Ebersole and Kristy joined them for dinner Sunday. Mr and Mrs Orville were afternoon visitors. MR AND MRS GERALD KELLY took his mother, Mrs Lena Kelly, to Marshalltown Thursday for an eye check-up in the clinic there. ELDON HOWEY OF RURAL Guthrie Center was a Thursday morning coffee guest of Mr and Mrs Ed Howey. MR AND MRS KENNETH KES- selring of rural Guthrie Center and Mr and Mrs Don Henning of Scranton were Sunday supper guests of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Cretsinger, Linda and Craig.

MARY ANN MURRANE OF DES Moines was a weekend guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs Joe Murrane. MR AND MRS FRED HARVEY were Thursday afternoon visitors of Mr and Mrs Barton Haup- ext in Jefferson. MR AND MRS ED HOWEY WERE Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Robert Stevens and family in West Des Moines. START THE YEAR WITH WEIGHT CONTROL The Guthrie county extension service is sponsoring an open meeting on weigit control. It will be held in the Farm Bureau building January 24 at 1:30 m.

Karen Gilbertson, extension home economist, will conduct the program with the assistance of Mrs John Eyerly of Panora. Topi to be covered will include diet fads and fallacies, nutritionally safe diets and physical fitness. AU interested are invited to attend. -30- With the Sick Roger Zeller entered the Greene County hospital January 11 after he was injured at his farm north of Bagley while working cattle. He has been improving and was scheduled to return home Wednesday.

Scott McDonald entered the Veterans hospital in DJSS Moines Monday for examination and treatment. He is on 5th floor, West. Dean Wailes is also on 5th floor of Veterans hospital and is in traction for a back injury. Tina, two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Dick Mozena, is in the Greene County hospital for treatment of bronchial pneumonia. She entered Friday and returned home Tuesday.

Walter Taylor is a patient in the Greene County hospital for observation and tests. Mrs Richard Vaughan entered the Greene County hospital Wednesday. She will be in traction for treatment of a pinched nerve. Mrs Lloyd Calder was a patient in the Guthrie County hospital from Monday until Thursday for minor surgery. Mrs Arthur Christensen entered the Guthrie County hospital Monday and had major surgery Tuesday.

Ted Garwood was a patient in Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines from Tuesday until Saturday. He had knee surgery Wednesday. Kelly Nielsen returned home Monday from the Guthrie County hospital. He had an appendectomy and was hospitalized six days. He is the 11-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Karl Nielsen and in the fifth grade'in the Bayard school.

Mrs Karl Nielsen entered the Guthrie County hospital Friday for observation and treatment. Mrs Howard Fell was taken to the Guthrie County hospital Sunday morning for examination and treatment following a slight stroke at her home. John Griffin entered the Guthrie hospital Monday afternoon for observation and treatment. Mrs Jim Me A lister returned Tuesday from St Anthony hospital in Carroll. She had been there a week for treatment.

Mrs Don Esslinger came home Wednesday from the Greene County hospital. She had surgery and was hospitalized a week. Polly Lloyd entered St Anthony hospital in Carroll Wednesday and had surgery Thursday. She came home Friday. Polly is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Lloyd and a sophomore in Bayard high school.

-30- MRS LESTER PECKUMN visited her aunt, Mrs Nora Hanlon, Tuesday afternoon in the St Anthony nursing home in Carroll. Mr and Mrs Lige Mats of Ireton have observed their sixty- third wedding anniversary. They have seven children, all living; 46 grandchildren and 67 great grandchildren. Sheryl Manor will be installed as worthy advisee; Odd Fellows will hold a pancake dinner and supper in the hall in Bagley Saturday, Jan 29. Rebekahs will have a bake sale in conjunction. Serving from 11 a and 5:30 m. Guthrie County American Legion and Auxiliary will meet at 8 Tuesday, Feb 1 in the IOOF Hall in Bagley.

Aviation ground school classes will meet Wednesday, January 26 at 7:30 at the Scranton school. If interested call the school or contact Leonard Siedhoff. The annual Guthrie County Iowa picnic in Huntington Park, Calif, will be Sunday, Feb 6, at 6500 Middleten Street in Huntington Park. -30- Candidates Listed For Soil Commission Today, Warren Sunds, Roger Chalfant, Milo Rees and Ralph Neal have submitted nomination petitions to the Guthrie Soil Commissioners, as candidates in the Soil Commissioners election to be held Thursday, February 3. Two commissioners are to be elected to fill the expired terms of Roger Chalfant and Ralph Neal. Both incumbents are seeking reelection. The Rural-Urban Conservation banquet will be held on election day with Frank Miller, Register and Tribune cartoonist, as speaker. Tickets for this affair can be purchased from the soil commissioners or at the Soil Conservation office in Guthrie Center.

This is county-wide and the ladies are also invited to attend. Both the voting location and the banquet will be held in the Elementary school building. The polls will be officially open to all voters between 5 and 8 m. The banquet is to begin at 6:30 m. -30- Ken Fulk Will Speak To Beef Producers Kenneth Fulk 9 secretary of the Iowa State Fair, is speaking for the Greene County Beef Producers banquet.

The banquet will be Thursday, January 27, in the East Greene high school in Grand Junction at m.
