Br lEVMOtR S. SMITH There was serious head shak ing among Washington College backers last week when it was feared 6 6 Emmett Molloy and 6-4 prospect Jim Brady, two basket-bailer, coach Ed Athey was in cluding in campaign plans, had been lost probably for the opening half of the season with a badly torn knee cartilage and a broken left hand. But everyone was feeling a lot better yesterday at nChestertown The sight of Molloy running normally in defensive scrim maging with fellow returning vet erans Rene Duvall, Jack Cook, Steve Preston, Kent Kidwell and Graydon Wetzler was a cheering one to Athey along with the news Brady expects to have the cast removed this weekend. Brady Among Freshmen "Molloy's injury was not as serious as. we first thought," Athey reported.

"He had damaged the same knee playing lacrosse last spring when his cleats got caught in the mud and he wrenched thr cartilage. This time he twisted it while rebounding. Molloy's one of our better rebounders and you can also count on him for ten to twelve points. "Brady is only a freshman, but hes one ot our most versatile shooters. He's a lean 6-4, very quick, can drive, jump shoot and hits from outside.

Brady cracked a knuckle trying to regain his bal ance while falling in his room. Despite the cast, he reports every practice. He has trouble catching the ball, but he's keeping in con dition." Athey, who divides his coaching time between guiding Washing' ton's Mason-Dixon Conference northern soccer winners and his twelfth Shore court entry, has whittled his hoop candidates down to twelve and begun concentrating on defense. "We're a better scor ing team than last winter," he admitted, "but I'm afraid we're going to give away more points, too." "We use a high-lo post, but its not the type whereour pivot- man feeds off. Duvall and Preston or Brady and (Richard) Carroll have been bringing the ball up and if Wetzler contiriues at his current pace he could crack the starting line-up.

He handles the ball well and has improved his shooting. Carroll is a newcomer, a good driver from either side, Duvall Scoring Threat "Jon Wolfe and Richard George are two more with promise. Cook did a fine rebounding job last winter" when the Shoremen finished second in the Mason-Dixon's northern half "and he, Kidwell and Molloy give us experienced Ifcard strength. Duvall remains our best threat. He has all the shots and although he's only a six-footer, he'll give you a good job in the pivot.

Quick dribbles from elsewhere: Jeff Mullins, Duke's bright soph omore prospect, caught an elbow above the eye in a recent practice and is back working with a dozen stitches as a souvenir. Coach Vic Bubas, however, reports back. courter John Cantwell among his losses. The veteran has waived his final season of eligibility to Bobby Lay ne Works Out With Steelers Pittsburgh, Nov. 8 Bobby Lavne worked out with the Pitts burgh Steelers today.
