Personally Yours Florist 1117 Texas Ave. Serving All Of Your Floral Needs With Quality. 443-6642 Photo courtesy of Lisha Barrett Lisha Barrett believes someone stole Peanut, a mixed-breed puppy she took in three months ago and helped nurse back to health. Missing puppy believed stolen When a cocker spaniel-mixed puppy was dropped in front of Kerry and Lisha Barrett's home with severe mange, the two decided to help the animal. Now, three months and several veterinarian visits later, the dog is missing from the Barretts' home.

Peanut is a black cocker spaniel with a white chest and a long tail. Mrs. Barrett said she appears to be a cock hund mix. She has a collar, but no tags. The dog, Peanut, never roamed far from the door of the Barrett's trailer on Handley Loop, so Mrs.

Barrett is sure she did not wander away from home. "She's just a little puppy," Mrs. Barrett said. "She is not the type tr wander off." The family is concerned about the dog's disappearance, and Mrs. Barrett is mostly concerned for the puppy's health.

When Peanut was dropped off near the Barrett's home three months ago, she was a "mangy, scabby little dog," Mrs. Barrett said. She said the dog, which looked to be only six or seven weeks old, was missing much of her hair. After a visit to the veterinarian, it was determined that Peanut has hereditary mange which requires medication and biweekly dips. Dr.

Bari Haas, of the Haas Animal Hospital, said Peanut has "demadectic mange." If left untreated or if a dog is not fully treated, the mange could return. She said Peanut was "getting better," but should continue her treatments. "In severe cases, the disease could potentially kill an animal," Dr. Haas said. The treatment is not available from a feed store, Dr.

Haas said. "You have to get it from a She said that once the symptoms have subsided the dog should be spayed or neutered, Peanut has been on medication for the mange, and since medication has been discontinued, the mange could return, Mrs. Barrett said. "I would like to let whoever took her know that she needs her medication." Peanut had just begun to healthy again when she taken from the Barrett's yard Monday. Mrs.

Barrett said her husband had gone hunting early Monday morning, and she saw Peanut when she placed her daughter the school bus that morning. When she heard noises outside the trailer later in the morning, she assumed it was her husband, but realized around noon she had not seen the dog in while. Mrs. Barrett believes that person who took Peanut have been the same person dropped her off three months ago. She said the road is traveled the same people, so it was likely that the person who took her aware of her condition.

"The more I think about Mrs. Barrett said, "someone to be watching." "When she started looking pretty again, she was gone." Mrs. Barrett said the dog "may look cured, but she is not." She said Peanut was dropped off at her home wearing a collar. "Someone must have known we would take care her." She was malnourished, mites, worms along with mange when she was dropped at the Barretts' home. "She was barely alive when got her," Mrs.

Barrett said, she really needs her medication." Peanut was scheduled to begin her shots last Tuesday. The Barretts are offering reward for anyone who assists them in locating Peanut. People who have possibly seen the should call the Barretts at since the disease is hereditary. 4481. Pin Pineville future in doubt By Mark Watson Staff reporter The Food Store in Pineville will probably close by Jan.

The lease runs out Jan.

Pineville Mayor Fred Baden said he did not know of the possibility of closing, but "I know Super 1, Delchamps and WinnDixie hurt them a good bit." If does close, it will cause inconvenience, because "that's were we do our evening shopping around here," Baden said. Plus, more than 60 percent of the surrounding neighborhood is elderly, "so it will have an impact," he said. "Any time you lose a business, it hurts," Baden said.
