has ever seen It has also given boys of small size a chance to express and prove themselves physically Juvenile delinquency has been curtailed to a great extent in areas where sity of Montana since the sport has become popular on the high school level The Montana State Bobcats have one of the finest records in the college wrestling world with 37 wins and two ties Only one of their wrestlers is from out of state The Montana Collegiate Conference schools have wrestling on the intra mural level and in their physical education classes 1966 DIVISIONAL CHAMPS Missoula Sentinel the 1965 state champion repeated again as the Western Division champ ion by a wide margin over Missoula Hellgate 136 to 104 The Glasgow Scotties won the Eastern Division title with 96 points just nipping the Custer County Cowboys from Miles City by two points Billings West came through with a victory in the Southern Division by outpointing their nearest rival the Billings Se nior Brones 91 to 75 lathead of Kalispell Braves wrestling in the toughest divis ion came through with a win over their nearest rival in the Northern Division Great alls Charles Russell High 90 to 87 Seventeen teams participate in the Northern Division and five of the teams are AA schools lathead basketball players are improving but just seem to get over that last few seconds barrier as noted last week end with the Butte Bull dogs and the Anaconda Copper heads and their two point loss to both teams The Braves will play their two neighbors to the north Whitefish and Columbia alls this weekend The Braves could be on the winning end if they were able to play the last quarter as well as the first three quarters from about a dozen of their games both at home and away The Braves have played some fine basketball at times this season and could make it real tough on some of the teams in their Division our Tourna ment in next week The lathead Savages downed the Whitefish rosh yesterday afternoon 62 45 Montgomery led for the Big Sky Conference ski meet this weekend pitting four teams together for the league championship Montana State the host school and last winner Idaho are picked to battle it out again for the title that the Vandals won last year by slip ping past the Bobcats Also en tered will be Montana and We ber Cross country and downhill events will be held riday and slalom and jumping competi tion Saturday MSU finished about 20 points ahead of Idaho in the only previous encounter between the two teams this season at Mc Call Idaho two weeks ago feel we have a 0 0 chance of winning the title tills year said Bobcat coach Bob Beck have good balance In the alpine events and our nordlc team has done well Grid Coaching Applications Being Studied WHITEISH The Whitefish School Board has received sev eral applications for the head football coaching and teaching position being vacated by Mel Hurd at the end of the current school term The present indication is that the board will devote a lot of time to studying the applications before selecting the new head coach In fact there is the possibility the new coach may not be chosen until just prior to the end of the current school term restlers Arriving or State Tourney School officials coaches and contestants will begin arriving in Kalispell tomorrow afternoon and evening for the State Wrest ling Tournament Thursday from 6 to 10 scales will be avail able in the boys locker room at lathead High for coaches who wish to check the weights o( their wrestlers At 10:30 tomorrow the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce will be the host at a lunch for coaches and officials at the Temple Tea Room Action in the tournament be gins at 1 riday Some 240 matches are on tap with a total of 192 wrestlers Tickets for the tournament are available at and the high school office The wrestlers who perform in the state tournament are the best having won berths in divi sional meets for the right to com pete in state action Competition will be waged on three mats at once affording spectators entertainment com parable to that of a three ring circus lathead will have eight wrestlers In the state tourna ment and the Braves also won the divisional tournament
