lowa Community Hard Hit By Casualties At Faid Pass In Tunisia RED OAK, La. UP) -The farmers and townspeople of southwestern Iowa's rich agricultural ing about their tasks with grief lines faces and a grim The full impact determinationtruck them squarely with the revelation Tuesday that a staggering number of their sons and kin were missing in the fighting at Faid Pass in Tunisia. A War Department casualty list disclosed that Iowa lost 310 soldiers at Faid Pass. Most of them came from less than a dozen farming communities in Montgomery, Page, Fremont and Miss counties- in the extreme southwestern corner of the tall corn state. Montgomery county alone had 57 men missing in action -presumably captured by the German Corps on February 17.

Eighteen of county's casualties came from the county seat town of Red Oak. Thus it appears that the little town of 5,000 population suffered as heavy a blow as that experienced by any American community since the start of the war. Mrs. Mae Stifle, who learned that two of her sons and a son-in-law are among those missing, expressed the fortitude of the community. "When my boys went away they told me not to cry, and she said.

Then, her voice trembling a bit, she added: "And I'm not going to now." We will buy used washers. Maytag Neosho Service. Ph. 162. 291-tt.
