July 29, 1997, at which time bids will be publicly opened ends were made. So it's particularly nice for all of us who witnessed their greatness as well as those who never knew about them or had forgotten how excellent they were, that the eight people being inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame this weekend Dalton Hillard, Gary Reasons, Scotty Robertson, Joyce Walker, Harold Porter, LJ. "Hoss" Garrett, Leslie Gaudet and Emmett Pare will not have to worry about time erasing their accomplishments. I remember Reasons, a nine-year NFL veteran was the leading tackier for the New York Giants when they beat Buffalo in the 1991 Super Bowl, and Dalton Hillard, the 5-foot-8 dynamo who dazzled LSU and Saints fans rushing the football. Fortunately there were those who remembered the others on the list and reminded everyone of their glory days.

Gaudet was the winningest high school coach ever when he retired in 1970 as the basketball coach at Pine Prairie. He still ranked fifth nationally at the end of last season. In 30 years of coaching, Gaudet's teams had 1,026 wins and just 353 losses. Gaudet never received a technical foul in more than 1,400 games. He averaged 34 victories a season and had two teams that won more than 60 games in a season.

Garrett, who was Louisiana's all-time leading prep football coach when he called it quits in 1971, had a 270-122-21 record in 38 years, 35 of them at Ruston High School. Pare was regarded as one of the country's top tennis coaches and built Tulane tennis to national prominence in 39 years as the coach. His record of 285-61-9, included a share of the 1959 NCAA championship, Walker scored 2,906 points in four years at LSU and led the Lady Tigers to four straight winning seasons. She was also an alternate for the 1984 Olympic team that won a gold medal and later played a year with the Harlem Globetrotters. Robertson played and coached at Louisiana Tech before moving on to be the head coach of three NBA teams.

He was the first coach of the New Orleans Jazz and later coached the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons. The group joins other great athletes Louisiana has produced in the Natchitoches hall. BEARS: The Chicago Bears announced the signings of seven draftees and two free agents, wide receiver Haywood Jeffires and defensive back Kevin Scott. Jeffires and Scott signed one-year contracts. Terms were not disclosed. Draftees signing with Chicago included guard Bob Sapp, a third rounder, and safety Van Hiles from the fifth round.

The Bears also took three sixth-round choices: defensive end Shawn Swayda, linebacker Rich Hogans, and safety Rickey Parker; and two seventh-round picks: defensive tackle Mike Mianao and defensive end Marvin Thomas. Contract terms were not available. OILERS: Tennessee Oilers owner Bud Adams said Thursday team officials are still looking at locations throughout the state to become the team's permanent preseason practice site. Adams was in Memphis Wednesday, where he toured the facilities at Rhodes College. And the Oilers owner said officials were also in Memphis last week where they looked at the facilities at Christian Brothers University.

Adams said the visits were made to inspect possible workout sites for the Oilers if they travel to Memphis a few days early for games. The Oilers will play in the Liberty Bowl this season and next while their permanent home stadium is constructed in Nashville. "We're trying to get up to speed (in Memphis) and get tickets sold," said Adams, whose Oilers open exhibition Aug. 2 in Memphis against New Orleans. PUBLIC NOTICE: Notice Is hereby given that me Office of Water Resources Favre has said he won't hold out of camp despite the slow negotiations of his contract extension.

He's seeking a seven-year deal worth upward of $50 million to replace the final two years of his five-year, $19 million pact Eighty players are expected to participate in the start of two-a-days on Sunday, and as many as 10,000 fans are expected to crowd the Oneida Street practice field. The Packers return all but one player from their record-breaking defense that helped earn Green Bay its first NFL title in 29 seasons. Sean Jones retired to the broadcast booth, leaving Gabe Wilkins the right defensive end. The only other projected new starter is Bernardo Harris, a third-year pro expected to fill in at middle linebacker while George Koonce rehabilitates from knee surgery. COLTS: The injury-plagued career of Indianapolis Colts linebacker Trev Alberts sustained another setback, the same day rookie linebacker Bert Berry made his debut on the practice field.

The Colts said that Alberts, the No. 5 overall pick in the 1994 draft, aggravated a previous surgical repair of the right shoulder he dislocated at Nebraska. It was uncertain how long Alberts would be out, but the team said it expected him to return. rnarxea as Bid 32-97, Metal DetectorsX-Ray Machine within the Department of Favre during the legal hours of sales on Wednesday, August 13, Environmental Quality will Bids will be received on receive comment from July II, 1997 to August 18, July 29, 1997 by the Pur ivy oeginnmg at 10:00 SHREVEPORT, CADDO PAR 1997, regarding me total chasing Division, Parish of ISH, LOUISIANA, AS PER maximum dally loads (TMDLi) and associated PLAT RECORDED IN BOOK 17, PAGE 22 OF THE CON Caddo, Caddo PArish Commission Building, 525 Marshall Street, Suite 301, Shreveport, Louisiana VEYANCE RECORDS OF CADDO PARISH.
