Jacksonville University, Texas Christian and Hofstra had agreed to play this year in the 39-year-old event, set for mid-December. They have been notified of the cancellation by the 13-member Executive Committee of the Gator Bowl Association, said John Bell, executive director.

The tournament lost about $15,000 last year, drawing from 2,500 to 3,500 fans per night. Bell said there are no plans to revive the tournament North Carolina transfer Clifford Rozier said he will attend the University of Louisville. Rozier said from his home in Bradenton. Rozier's official recruiting visit tothe University of Kentucky May 3-5 resulted in an NCAA violation and forced the school to cease its recruitment of the 6-foot-10 center-forward. On the same day Kentucky held a news conference to discuss the violation, Rozier flew to Louisville for an official visit and wpund up involved in another possible violation.

Television interviews with Rozier and a photograph in the Courier-Journal of Louisville assistant coach Larry Gay greeting Rozier at Standiford Field Airport were thought to be potential violations of an NCAA rule regarding publicity during a recruit's official visit. Rozier early Wednesday afternoon indicated that the only obstacle barring him from a commitment to Louisville was potential NCAA action regarding publicity. He added that a decision on where he will transfer should be reached "soon, real soon. As soon as this all is resolved." Rozier averaged 4.9 points and three rebounds per game for the Tar Heels, who appeared in the Final Four Manute Bol of the Philadelphia 76ers was fined $1,500 by the NBA for throwing the ball at an official and failing to proceed directly to the locker room after being ejected from a game. The incident occurred during the 76ers' 99-97 victory over the Chicago Bulls in a second-round playoff game on May 10 UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian blamed NCAA sanctions for junior guard Anderson Hunt's decision to pass up his final year in college to enter next month's NBA draft.

Hunt confirmed he had submitted his name for the draft, a decision Tarkanian said stemmed from NCAA penalities that bar the Runnin' Rebels from postseason play and live television next season. The 6-foot-1 Hunt, the 1990 Final Four MVP and an all-tournament selection this year, averaged about 17 points a game last season in the off-guard position.
