She said she started with one morphine shot per day, but later "it got to be two, three, four times a day." "Do you have any idea how much money you paid Dr.

Craig for these shots?" asked Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Jarzabek. "A lot," Mrs. Kearns answered. "I had gotten a settlement." "Thousands of dollars?" Jar 1 -J til BOSTON BUTT PORK ROAST GRADE WHOLE FRYERS FRESH PICNIC 89', BONELESS CAJUN BOY SMOKED SAUSAGE Mrs.

Willet testified she made her last visit to Craig the day after her arrest. "He gave me several prescriptions," Mrs. Willet said. "He also gave me a shot of morphine." She said that after that day she entered drug rehabilitation a second time. Since then she has not had morphine and has had codeine only for oral surgery, she testified.

Under cross-examination, Mrs. Willet admitted that a summary report for her first drug rehabilitation stay stated that she had a 10-year history of drug abuse and had been referred to the rehabilitation unit by Craig. Mrs. Willet said there were inaccuracies in the summary, including the reference to Craig referring her. She said the summary was also incorrect in stating she received treatment for drugs in two hospital stays in 1976.

She said she was admitted to the hospital for depression, not drug treatment. No referrals Both Mrs. Kearns and Mrs. Willet testified Craig never suggested they go to drug rehabilitation nor referred them to drug rehabilitation clinics, although Mrs. Willet said Craig did suggest she attend a program on living with pain.

Terri Craig, a former wife of Craig and also a nurse, testified Tuesday that she gave morphine shots at their home under Craig's instruction. She said Mrs. Willet and Mrs. Kearns were among the patients to receive morphine shots at night at Craig's house. Mickey Chicola testified that he obtained diet pills from Craig on three out of four visits to Craig's office without ever saying he had a weight problem.

Chicola testified he was asked to help in the Craig investigation by former State Police Trooper David Rushing, who was a friend. Both Rushing and Chicola testified that Chicola was not a paid informant and received compensation only for his expenses. "Yes," Mrs. Kearns Mrs. Kearns testified that Craig once told her someone in her family had called state police about him dispensing morphine to her. Mrs. Kearns said Craig told her she would have to visit a psychiatrist for a week before she could get any more shots.

Mrs. Kearns said Craig did not go back to dispensing morphine to her until she returned with a letter from the psychiatrist. Under cross-examination, Mrs. Kearns admitted that she continues to take codeine at times, but no longer takes morphine. Both are opium-based medicines.

Codeine abuse Barbara Willet testified she started abusing codeine after a 1973 accident and began getting it from Craig in the early 1980s. Like Mrs. Kearns, Mrs. Willet said she was in pain. Mrs.

Willet testified that during one visit Craig told her he could not give her any more codeine because he was being watched and would give her morphine as a substitute. Mrs. Willet testified she began getting morphine daily from Craig, at times lying about being in pain to get it. Both Mrs. Willet and Mrs.

Kearns were shown Craig's records of their treatments. The records showed repeated dispensing of morphine to both women, but not every day. Both women testified the records did not include all of their morphine shots, and they said some of the shots were given at Craig's house. Mrs. Willet testified that in late 1983 she stole prescription forms from Craig's office and successfully forged codeine prescriptions.

She said she admitted that to Craig in January 1984 but Craig continued giving her morphine. Also, Mrs. Willet testified she received morphine from Craig the night before she checked into a drug rehabilitation unit in May 1984. She said that night Craig did not charge his usual $40 fee. "He said, 'This one's on the Mrs.

Willet testified. She said that after going through drug rehabilitation, she stayed off drugs for 18 months, but then had a relapse. She said she was arrested on Dec. 13, 1986, for attempting to fraudulently obtain codeine. She said the charge was later dismissed.
