Roads in downtown Everglades City were flooded with more than 18 inches of water. Marco Island Few lanais and pool enclosures remain intact after high winds either removed them or left the screens in tatters. Trees were uprooted, and other plant debris littered parking lots. Pieces of metal from lanais and mangled carports were wrapped around fire hydrants and poles.

Several boats were sunk, overturned or damaged. At Marco River Marina, a sailboat severed a pier in half. At Marco Bay Resort, a large section of pier was missing and all that remained of a sailboat was half of the hull sticking out of the water. On the beach, many of the high-rises remained intact, although a few windows were blown out and storm shutters destroyed. Naples High winds caused an electrical short in an outside power box, which sparked a fire that destroyed an unoccupied home in East Naples.

At least a dozen mobile homes in East Naples were damaged, including one trailer in Moorehead Manor that had its roof peeled off. ft THE GULF OF MEXICO: Hurricane Andrew headed into the Gulf of Mexico on Monday afternoon with 140 mph winds. Its current path is taking it toward New Orleans. Warnings were posted from Pascagoula, Vermillion Bay, La. to if Hr fV igi.
