Louisiana Tech 6 Livingston 0 LIVINGSTON, Ala. Louisiana Tech pitcher Mike Galvan scattered six hits and struck out five in leading the Bulldogs to a 6-0 shutout win over Livingston University at Tartt Field Sunday afternoon. Tech, now 15-9, banged out 11 hits in the game and rode a pair of home runs from Jeff Miller and Ed Beuerlein to take the victory. Livingston's Tigers fell to 13-10 with the loss. The Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard in the second after Jim Aulds led off the inning with a double, followed by Miller's 10th home run of the season for a 2-0 lead.

Tech added a Beuerlein three-run homer in the sixth inning for a 5-0 advantage. The Bulldog catcher's eighth round-tripper of the season brought in Miller and Ken Shamburg, who reached on a single and an outfield error, respectively. Galvan faced the minimum 15 batters through five innings before giving up a double to Larry Lippert to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Tech will host Louisiana College in a single game Tuesday at J.C. Love Field Deginning at 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs begin their American South Conference play Thursday at home, starting a three-game series against Southwestern Louisiana. NEW ORLEANS (AP) Ben McDonald allowed only one unearned run, and scattered two hits to lead Louisiana State to a 7- I victory over UCLA Sunday in the Busch Challenge baseball at the Louisiana Superdome. The Tigers got home runs from Gary Hymel and Craig Cala as they improved their record to 18-6 and dropped UCLA to 18-13. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, LSU scored two runs on RBI singles by Cala and Richie Vas-quez. McDonald then took over, retiring 24 of UCLA's final 27 batters and improving his record to 7-1.

Texas-Arlington 9 Northwestern State 2 NATCHITOCHES The University of Texas-Arlington used II hits to circle the bases nine times in the Mavericks' 9-2 win over the Demons here Sunday afternoon. It was UTA's second win in the three-game weekend. A dozen batters went to the plate before anyone reached the basepath. UTA's Todd Mraz drew a walk from losing pitcher Kenny Morris. The Mavs turned two free passes and a pair of hits into four runs, which proved to be enough for the win.

NSU scored one run in the bottom of the third when John Smith, who doubled, came home on an error. Dicky Marze scored NSU's other run in the seventh on his solo shot over the left field fence. UTA, which moved to 21-14 overall and 3-3 in the Southland Conference, added two runs in the sixth and three in the eighth. NSU, now 8-15 and 2-4 in the SLC, will take a week of for spring break, before facing Louisiana College in a doubleheader in Alexandria on Tuesday, April 5. Nicholls St 8 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

(AP) Vic Merritt had two doubles and Billy Schorr and Scott Fontenot had two hits each as Nicholls State defeated Alabama-Birmingham. Nicholls State, 17-12-1, scored three runs in each of the first two innings en route to the victory over UAB, 13-8-1. Gary Webre scored for the Colonels in the top of the first on an error by UAB firstbaseman Dan Swatek. Swatek's error was followed by an RBI double by Merritt that scored Dennis Kidd and a wild pitch by Blazer starter Glenn Chenot, 3-2, that scored Merritt to make the score 3-0. In the bottom of the first UAB's Scott Hatch led off with a single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Mink.

Nicholls State added to its lead in the top of the second as Schorr led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Fontenot. Sarah Slater bunted her to third. Michelle DeMattie then singled one out later to shortstop. DeMattie slid into first as Stanley scored the game-winner. Port Barre sacrificed its runner to third before a walk and stolen base put runners on second and third, still with one out. Pitcher Jill Bonial fielded a grounder but made no throw to load the bases.

Third baseman Martha Perot then snagged a bunt on the next play and threw to DeMattie at the plate for the second out.
