Switzerincast NORMAN, Okla. (AP) University of Oklahoma Coach Barry Switzer won't need surgery for the knee injury he suffered Satur day on the sideline during the Missouri-Oklahoma football game, the team's orthopedic surgeon says. Dr.

David Flesher of Oklahoma City examined Switzer Sunday morning. Switzer was fitted with a cast, which he must wear on his left leg for six weeks. "Another degree and it would have been (surgery)," Switzer said Sunday. "I think I've lost my quickness," Switzer said. "For 15 years I've dodged them on the sideline, but I never saw the guy.

I knew when it happened I was in trouble. I knew it was ligaments." Switzer said he also wasn't injured during his playing days at Arkansas. The coach was injured at the end of Oklahoma's second play from scrimmage when Missouri linebacker Reggie Ballard, who was aiming for Sooner quarterback Charles Thompson, hit him in the legs. Georgetown signs prize CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) -Indian River's Alonzo Mourning, considered one of the country's best high school basketball player, says he will sign a letter of intent to attend Georgetown University by Wednesday, the final day of the early signing period for recruits.

The 6-foot-10 Mourning told The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk that he relayed his decision Sunday to Thompson as well as the schools he was considering: Virginia, Tech and Coach arrested SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Syracuse assistant football coach Bob Casullo was to appear in City Court today following his arrest on a charge of third-degree assault in an incident outside his home. It is the third time this season a member of the undefeated Orangemen football squad has been in trouble with police. The two other incidents involved players Daryl Johnston, who was arrested on criminal mischief charges last month, and Warren Stith and Tony Taylor, who were charged with disorderly conduct in the same episode. "It was just a neighborly dispute, and nothing else than that," said Casullo, Syracuse's recruit-ingand personnel coordinator.

The 36-year-old coach declined to give details of the incident. According to police, Casullo punched his neighbor Martin Cameron following a dispute in front of their adjacent nouses. Cameron said the argument involved Casullo's parents and wife and a real estate agent that was visiting Cameron's home. Aldrich wins JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) Unheralded Peter Aldrich of South Africa, a late qualifier, upset South African-born Johan Kriek, now an American citizen, 6-3, 7-5 in the first round of the $375,000 South African Open tennis championships Monday. In other opening-round matches, third-seeded Brad Gilbert defeated West Germany's Michael Westphal 6-2, 6-0; Francesco Cancellotti of Italy beat Rick Leach 6-4, 6-3; Matt Anger ousted Eddie Edwards of South Africa 6-4, 7-5; Richey Reneberg eliminated Barry Moir of South Africa 7-5, 6-1; and Garry Muller of South Africa downed Mark Woodforde of Australia 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

The favorites in the tourna ment, top-seeded Pat Cash of Australia and No. 2 seed Andres Gomez of Ecuador, were not scheduled to play until Tuesday. Notre Dame player EAST ST. LOUIS, 111. (AP) -LaPhonso Ellis, a star center who led Lincoln High to the Illinois state Class AA championship last winter, announced Monday he will sign a letter of intent to attend Notre Dame.

Ellis scored 27 points and Eulled down 10 rebounds during incoln High's title game victory in March over Chicago King. Schools that had expressed interest in the 6-foot-10 player included defending NCAA champion Indiana. Zeno honored Tulane wide receiver Mark Zeno was named one of the Associated Press' Southeast Players of the Week for games of Saturday, Nov. 14. Zeno broke the NCAA career record for receiving yardage when he had 12 catches for 238 yards and two touchdowns in Tu-lane's 38-10 victory over Southwestern Louisiana.

Zeno now has yards on receptions, erasing the previous record of 3,598 set by Ron Sellers of Florida State in a career that ended in 1968. The defensive players of the week were linebackers Marlon Brown, Memphis State, and Steve DeLong, Tennessee. Brown had 10 solo tackles, including four quarterback sacks for minus 31 yards, assisted on three other tackles and caused a fumble. DeLong had nine tackles, one for a loss, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble in Tennessee's 55-13 victory over Mississippi. Bird honored NEW YORK (AP) Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics, who averaged 31.8 points and 11.7 rebounds, was named the NBA's first Player of the Week Monday.
