at Monet Friday evening and reported the meeting very interesting. Prof. G. K. Barlow, Mr.

Mrs. J. J. Jack and Frances Young attended church and Sunday school at Mt. Grove Sunday afternoon.

Rev. Bowman had charge of the preaching service. Frank Sanders, the Supt. of the Sunday school, is a fine young man and deserves much credit for the way he conducts the school. Mr.

and Mrs. Orwln Miller entertained at their beautiful farm home Sunday, the following friends and' relatives, Mr. and Mrs. W. B.

Callaway and son Noble, and daughter Esther, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ferguson and family, Mr. and Mrs; Gus Ferguson and family, Mr. ahd Mrs.

Ollie Pierce and family, Mrs. W. P. Pierce, Mrs. Winnie Miller, Mr.

and Mrs. C. W. Crooks, of Pierce' City. The afternoon was spent in music and singing.

The occasion was very much, enjoyed by all. T. W. Robinson of the Park community was in our town purchasing red 'calves, Saturday. We extend a hearty welcome to Mr.

and Mrs. Wilbur Shumate ami family who have moved from Granby to the W. A. Capps farm northwest of Ritchey. The Ritchey Fruit Growers' Association held meeting Monday night.

Mr. O'Dwyer of Monett delivered an interesting and helpful address. He filled the appointment of Mr. Frank Taiclet of Neosho, the sales manager of the Ozark Fruit Growers' Association, who was unable to be present. Mr.

W. B. Wise of Springfield, representing the American Book Company, visited the school Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs.

General Stockton and son, Mrs. Rosa Crosslen of Monett and Miss Myrtle Stockton of Kansas City spent Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C.

Mrs. Bob Harris who is very sick was brought to her mother's Mrs. Wyatt's, a week ago last Sunday in a Treece ambulance. Albert Turner is suffering with rheumatism. 'Last week he haO a bad case of tonsilitis.

McELHANY CONSOLIDATED DISTRICT NO. 5 The committee appointed by the Superintendents-Principals organl- Ization of Newton county for the purpose of arranging 1 a county Basket ball tournament met at the county superintendent's office last Saturday.

The place of tournament will be at Seneca on March 22nd and 23rd. All junior high. third and second class schools are eligible to enter. The town is to conduct the tournament. About 18 the contest for places.

Loving teams will enter Irst and second cups as trophies will be awarded. All entries are to be sent to Claudo C. Bailey at Neosho. Regular entry Blanks will be mailed out to the competing schools soon. The new geography books for he 3rd and 4th grades have arrived and have been distributed to grade unit.

The pupils of the upper grade have made an excellent col- ection of garden seed in connec- with their study of vegetable growing in agriculture. Mr. Hill las supervised the construction of an excellent show case with a glass covering to exhibit the many varie- it-s. --Millard McFadden, Everet and Valda Sallee attended the final games of the Goodman tournament ast Saturday night. Carl Hussey made a business trip to Aurora last Sunday.

Doyle Wilmoth of Ft. Worth, Texas is visiting his uncle, V. StevensonT Rev. Wilmoth pleas-ant the MrT gave the high school a visit Tuesday afternoon. Waunita Garrett visited at Stevenson home last Sunday.

Basil Hill was transacting business in Joplin Saturday. Mr. Deardorff. the high school inspector will be here this week. Billie Laird of the Ozark school visited with Junior Stevenson Sunday.

The Literary Society did not meet at West Benton last Friday night due to the mass meeting at Northview. February 22 will be tho next and last mooting of the society for this season. A good program has been planned, the ques tion for debate is "Resolved that ignorance more crime than whiskey. Mr. Fennimore entertained a group of friends at his home last Wednesday evening.

Jake Vest has sold twenty acres of his farm joining McElhany, to a man from Arkansas. Mr. Lovett was quite sick with the flu a few days last week but is better now.

The Cantreli family started on their western trip last Tuesday. On account of the extreme cold, the Goodman Ladies Aid and the men of the church and the boys of the League did not meet at the T. L. Cloud homo as Intended but are expected to be there Saturday the 23rd. The ladies will quilt and the men will cut wood for the M.

Moshier who has been at Mt. Vernon for several months, has improved so much. It is expected that she will be at home the first of April. Jerome Jackson or Bum as he is commonly called, expects to return home from the Neosho Hospital in a day or two. A meeting was held at the Northview school house to explain about voting bonds for the purpose of building a new high school building in Consolidated District No.

M. Smtthi Ben Martin Is having a sale paratory to moving- to Omaha, real soon. Lost Sunday about thirty-five of their friends came in with well filled baskets and spent the day with farewell dinner. Those present from off were Frank Holly and family of Galena, Harve Boyd and family of Joplin. Mr.

Martin will leave for his new home soon after the sale while Mrs. Martin and son Grover will stay in Diamond until school closes. They will live in the Love property here in Diamond. Quite a- few of the relatives of Mr. and Mrs.

Homer Massey gathered at their residence last Sunday with full baskets to celebrate Mrs. Massey's birthday. About 25 were present and a 'pleasant time was enjoyed by all present. Fred Hltt and wife of Pawhuska, spent last week-end with Mrs. Hitt's parents, also Mr.

and Mrs. Hltt east of Diamond. Jimmle Cooper of Plttsburg, drove over and spent the day with his mother, Florence Cooper, last Sunday. John McBrlar and family of Springfield spent Sunday with his parents in the village. Mr.

and Mrs. Olla Rambo of Montana who -are visiting Mrs. Rambo's mother in Carthage, came to Diamond Wednesday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gage.

Mrs. Maude Erickson of Kansas City who spent a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon here left for Tulsa, for a visit with her daughter, Inez. Those who attended Federation meeting at Neosho last Thursday at the Christian church were Mesdames Leathers, Love, McCracken, Claroy, Yeoman, Lee Boehning and McCorkle.

The main address was Klven by Mrs. Anne Carter of Kansas City. Mrs. Robert Lee came to the Cheatem Hospital and had her tonsils removed. Mrs.

John Boehning who has been Neosho hospital for some time returned to her home last Saturday. Her many friends are grlad to know she is doing nicely. Misses Vera Love and Thelma Kelly who make their home In Kansas City started for Diamond to spend last week-end here with their parents. They had oar trouble at Rich Hill and were unable to get it- fixed until Sunday. They returned to Kansas City Sunday on account of being at their work Monday morning.

Chas. Robinson of Santa. Monica, came Tuesday for an extended visit with his mother and sisters. Enroute here he stopped over at Sapulpa. for a visit with his sister, Mrs.

Grace Molder, who accompanied him here for a short stay. NOTTCK RURAL CLUBS The Newton county Homemakers organization extends this Invitation to the various rural women's clubs of the county and the Country Club of Neosho to meet with them' in a good fellowship meeting at the Ad Club rooms in Neosho, March 16. Melton Foster and Ethyle Fennimore visited with Mr. and Mrs. Adams last Saturday evening. Ruby Phillips of Noosho visited Irene Wenney. teacher of the West Benton school last week.

Mrs. Lula. Foster visited her sister, Mrs. Adams of Anderson last Saturday and Sunday. The high school girls have organized a "Hot Lunch Club." Soups are served on Mondays and Fridays to all students at five conts per bowl.

Faye McCaffree was -manager of the club, Bessie Litton is secretary and treasurer. We appreciate the hot soups on cold days and wish to commend the club for their interest and ability to please. Claude C. Bailey attended a Superintendents' meeting at Granby Thursday night. Doyle Wilmoth and Bessie Litton spent Sunday with Mr.

and Mrs. Robert Laird. The eighth grade students who are candidates for diplomas will take the final examinations at Neosho. The entire district was represented at the mass meeting at Northview last Friday night. Mr.

Foster made a talk which was enjoyed by all. Everyone was given a chance to express themselves and many took advantage of this opportunity It seems that the majority of the people favor a bond issue. Doyle Wilmoth, Bertha Mae and Junior Stevenson spent Friday evening at the home of Dorothy Cope who has new Victrola. A Mr. Gum of Neosho was looking over the Meeks section last Sunday, as a likeable place to move in the near future.

Mabel McKnight of Edgewood gave party for a number of her friends last Saturday night. The following were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Showalter last Sunday: Mr. and Mrs.

Geo. Hussoy of Neosho. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rorebeck of Stella, and Mrs.

Howard Brannlck, Mr. and Mrs. II. S. Hussey and Mr.

and Mrs. W. M. Showalter. The Board of Education will meet at Northview Friday night the 22nd.
