A farmer all his life, Mr Lloyd had been in good health and his death was unexpected. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a from the Coon Rapids United Methodist church with the pastor, Rev James Buikema, officiating, with the Rev Bill Parker of Omaha assisting. Judy Alex was organist and interment was made in the Carrollton cemetery.

The casket was carried by Darwin Lile, Dave Annear, Ronald Hart, Larry Alex, Don Herron and Harmon Linn, Jr. Honorary bearers were Kenneth Tolle, Seth Parker, DeLos Annear, Alfred Parker, Frank Tuel, Chuck Richardson and Lyle Watrous. Survivors include his widow, Velma, and two sons, Dean of Coon Rapids and Jack of Bayard. JUDY EARNS SPOT ON COLLEGE ROLL, Judy McClellan, a freshman at Northwest Missouri State college in Maryville, was named to the Dean's list for the 1971 spring semester. To qualify for the Dean's list a student must maintain a grade average above 3.50. Bryan Mercer Post No. 44 Bayard American Legion Frank Botts was re- elected commander of the American Legion at their meeting Tuesday night, June 1. Others elected to office are Dale Deeth, first vice commander; Kenneth Wetz el, second vice commander; Fred Schoonover, chaplain; Joe Ewing, adjutant; Don Deaton, sergeant-at-arms Merle Sharp, Officers will be installed in August.

After a discussion on the loaning of equipment from the Hall the following motion was approved: "There will be no loaning of equipment to any one, except members of the American Legion or Auxiliary, and then only for funerals. Organizations that have borrowed equipment in the past are still eligible to use it when needed." Commander Botts gave a report on the district conference held in Harlan. The county meeting of the Legion and Auxiliary will be in Jamaica June 10. Members of the Junior Auxiliary presented a short program to the Legionnaires and Auxiliary before their business meetings. Attend Reunion The Class of 1921 of the Bayard high school celebrated the golden anniversary of their graduation with a dinner party in Betty's Cafe in Bayard Sunday, May 30.

Dinner was served to the 13 members of the class and their guests at 2:30 m. The table appointments were in the class colors of purple and gold with arrangements of lily of the valley, the class flower. Attending were Francis Lockwood, SanBenito, Texas; Mrs James Aalfs, Oakland, Calif; Mr and Mrs Harold Moylan of Omaha; Mr and Mrs Donald O'Brien of Des Moines; Mr and Mrs Joe Robinson of Indianola; Mr and Mrs Howard Brideson of Dallas Center; Mrs Elmer Thorpe of Jefferson; Mr and Mrs Leo Bennett and Mrs Gladys Curry Teleshaw of Guthrie Center; Mary Manley of Sioux City; Mr and Mrs Wayne Hedges of Scranton; Mr and Mrs Clive Miller, Mr and Mrs Howard Hoit, Mr and Mrs Cliff Pulver and Zetta Lewis. Three of the class of 16 are deceased. They were Pearl Watldns Keagle, Harold Holli, day and Hettie Snyder Ocheltree.

Mrs Pulver read a letter from Mrs Margaret Rafferty Kennedy of Marshalltown, a teacher. Mrs Waifes Operating Cafe in Bayard Dean Wailes of Fitchburg, Mass, is the new operator of the Bayard Cafe. He assumed management Tuesday morning, taking over from Mr and Mrs Cliff Long who have operated the cafe for the last two and one- half years. A native of Bayard, Wailes has lived in Massachusetts several years where he worked in a paper mill. Prior to that he had much experience as a cook.

The Bayard Cafe is owned by a local corporation with stockholders all living in the Bayard area. Cliff Tuel is president. Wailes is married and is the father of four children. Edna Kendig Hidlebaugh gave a few words of appreciation to her former students. Zetta Lewis read several cheers used for the football games and a song composed by a former music teacher, Mrs Eletha McCall.

After a social hour of reminiscing and picture taking the group was honored at an open house in the home of Mr and Mrs Romaine Lockwood. A buffet luncheon was served by Mrs Lockwood. Mrs Hedges and Miss Manley assisted her in the serving. Friends of the class called during the evening. Co-Op Meeting Set At School June 5 The annual meeting of the Bayard Farmers Cooperative Elevator Compnay will be held in the Bayard school Saturday, June 5, at 7 m.

A chicken dinner will be served by the Band Mothers and all members and their wives are invited to attend. Speaker of the evening will be Merle Pruett of Carroll, soils technical supervisor of Felco- Land-O-Lakes for region three which is southwest Iowa. He will discuss agricultural pollution. Pruett is a native of Battle Creek and attended school in Cherokee. After graduating from Wayne State college in 1961 he taught school in Schleswig.

Later he attended Iowa State University and was a PC A manager in Amboy, Minn. President Jim Hagan and Manager Bob Balster will report, on the greatest year in the history of the Bayard Co-Op and two directors will be elected. Hagan will be completing his second term on the board and is not eligible for re-election. Wayne Brown is completing his first term and is running for a second term. Others whose names appear on the ballot are Dick Oswald, Jim Ram ackers and Jack Tuel.

Two of these four men will be elected to three- year terms. Holdover board members are Norman Crees, Louis Ault, Harold Curl, Jorm.Peckumn, Ward McClelan, Jr, and Jim Stringham, Jr. -30- Memorial Rush Starts Springbrook Season The first weekend of the 1971 camping season brought a large turnout at Springbrook State Park, according to Wayne Partridge, park officer. Those taking advantage of the camp grounds ran well beyond the 1,000 mark and on Sunday the total park attendance was 4, 000. The Saturday turnout was 3,250 and Monday the crowd was 2,950.

All park facilities are now open and as the weather warms up the crowds are expected to increase. Five Area Students Graduate at Iowa State Four students from Bayard and one from Bagley received degrees at commencement exercises at Iowa State University in Ames Saturday. One of them, Roger Hall of Bayard, was graduated with distinction. This means that he had an over-all grade point average cf more than 3.50. The others from Bayard who received degrees were Joan Wetzel Anderson, Joe Calder and Willard (Gene) Johnston.

Mich- ael Deardorff was the Bagley student who earned a degree. In addition, Mrs Anderson's husband, Wayne, was graduated from the Ames school. Deardorff, son of Mr and Mrs Orville Deardorff, received a bachelor of science degree in horticulture. Mike plans to leave June 14 for Fort Jackson, South Carolina, to begin his six-months basic training in the National Guard. The last four months of his training will be at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

He probably will return to school after he completes his military obligation. Hall won his degree in aerospace engineering and he plans to continue his education but he has not decided where he will go. Mrs Anderson will follow her husband who is joining the Armed Forces. She plans to teach at or near the base where he is assigned. She received her bachelor of science degree in botany.

Calder received a bachelor of science degree in psychology and will enroll at another school for further training. Johnston was graduated with a degree in agricultural communications and he has gone to Minneapolis where he is employed at the Miller Publishing company. He will be married June 12 and after that he probably will be heading for the military. Other area students who receiv- ed degrees included John Clayburg, John Lloyd, Richard Schumacher, Gregory Schwaller and John Thomas, Coon Rapids; David EBull, James Vandeventer, Kristi Branson Winebright and Carol Luckey Yancey, Guthrie Center; Patricia A Partlow, Menlo; Thomas Donahey, Ronald Long and Pamela A Royer, Panora; JonP Oxenford and James A Tolsdorf, Scranton and Shirley A Tallman of Stuart.
