Tests For Cancer For Well Urced Any uammorean wno has any suspicion that he Is harboring a cancer should immediately consult his own physician for an examina- tion, Dr. Howard Jones, director of the American Cancer Society, said yesterday. Dr. Jones pointed out that the cancer-detection clinics sponsored by the society in the Johns Hopkins and University hospitals are for the purpose of examining well persons who have no outward or any other sign of cancer and not for those who may have long unhealed sores or other symptoms which already have aroused the suspicions of the patient.

The physician stated that for per sons who definitely have suspicious symptoms to go to either of the clinics for examination simply is wasting the time of the patient and the doctors operating the centers. He explained that those who go to the two centers for examination do not receive treatments, but are referred to their own physicians if any condition justifying suspicion of cancer is found. Well persons may obtain appoint ments for examination by telephon ing the Cancer Society, Lexington 8086. Labovitz Takes Post In Quails' Fund Drive Paul L. B. G. Bibby Definite progress toward the prevention of tooth decay has been made through the combination of two approaches to the problem. Dr. B.

G. Bibby, dean of Tufts College Dental School, Boston, told members of the Baltimore City Dental Society yesterday. Dr. Bibby, addressing an all-day cession of the society at the Lord Baltimore Hotel, said no "cure-all" had been developed, but suggested that use of all preventive measures so far established would improve general dental health. Two Approaches Described -The "two approaches" described by Dr.

Bibby were: Destruction or Inactlvation of the agents causing decay. Building up of the materials attacked by the agencies of Dr. Bibby explained that war experiences had revealed a direct relationship between the number of times an Individual and the cumber of times his teeth are subject to mouth acids which tend to cause tooth decay. Bacteria Work Fast The attacking agent has done its destructive work within approxi mately one half hour after intake of food, Dr. Bibby said.

It Is a rapid process. If we eat three times a day, our teeth are three times subject to the attack, no matter how much or little we may consume. This Is equally applicable to a five-times-a dav eating regime." Dr. Bibby went on to say that mouth washes have a temporary tendency to reduce the effective ness of the acid bacteria, but that the attack always so far has been renewed.
