Tara Spillman and Huebner) Todd Neitte share the warmth of a blanket at Father Sues Village of Woodworth Over Girl's Injuries in Accident An Alexandria man has filed a $1.3 million lawsuit against the village of Woodworth on behalf of his daughter who was "severely" injured when the truck she was riding in crashed after being chased by a Woodworth policeman. An Alexandria teen, Roy E.

Noe, 16, of 23 Calvert Drive, died as the result of injuries he suffered in the wreck on Castor Plunge Road July 3. Also, a woman, whose car was struck by the truck, was in the latter stages of pregnancy and lost her baby following the accident. Richard B. Gross, father of Stephanie Ann Gross, one of three passengers in the truck, filed the suit against the village of Woodworth, one of its police officers, Morgan Perry, and Dodge, Inc. Wednesday.

The suit alleges Perry caused the accident by attempting to stop the truck "in a manner that would foreseeably result in injuries." According to police reports at the time of the accident, Noe and Bobby Shane Slocum, of Alexandria, took a truck belonging to Dodge from its Maynard Street lot. They picked up Ms. Gross and Robin Lackey, also of Alexandria, and drove to Woodworth. Football Weather Once on Castor Plunge Road, the group decided to head back to Alexandria. While on the way back, they saw the police car driven by Perry and panicked, running a stoplight, police said.

Perry gave chase when the truck, driven by Noe and heading into a slight turn, crossed the center line and hit head on the car of Woodworth resident Pollyana Marshall. Perry swerved his car to the right to avoid the collision, but hit Ms. Marshall's car, too. Ms. Marshall, who was in the late stages of pregnancy, underwent an operation at Rapides General Hospital, but doctors were unable to save her baby.

Along with Ms. Gross, Ms. Lackey was also seriously injured in the accident. The suit alleges that Perry caused the accident by "using his flashing lights; giving high speed chase; and discharging his weapon." The suit asks for $95,000 in damages to cover medical expenses, and $1,250,000 for past and future pain and suffering. A suit outlines the grievance of one party against another and does not give both sides of the issue.

Police said Willard L. Keesee 26, of 520 Penick Pineville, was traveling east on West Circle Drive when he fell out of the car he was driving as it rounded a curve, police said. Keesee told police the car continued to move. It hit a house at 5648 West Circle Drive damaging bricks on the front of the house and several boxwood plants, police said.

Keesee said the car, a 1971 Volkswagon, had no latch on the door and the driver's seat was not bolted down, according to police. Police said Keesee received moderate injuries. John F. Borrelli, 27, of 5620 West Circle Drive was a passenger in the car, police said. He received no injuries, according to police.

JENA Sam Young, a LaSalle Parish deputy sheriff, has filed a suit seeking $200,000 in damages from a Jena man who placed a half-page "open letter" critical of Young's professional conduct in a weekly newspaper. Young alleges Chester Floyd's paid advertisement in the May 2 edition of the Jena Times and Olla-Tullos Signal defamed the deputy "by making multiple allegations that Deputy Young lied in his testimony in a trial held on April 13," in 28th Judicial District Court. Floyd's letter dealt with the trial of his grandson, Brent Floyd, who was charged in December with failure to maintain control of a vehicle. Floyd wrote that his center line and was spinning his grandson "supposedly crossed the tires when he left the parking lot of a service station." Floyd charged Young's testimony was "laced with inconsistencies" which "made a verdict by the honorable district judge very easy. Not guilty." Floyd charged the deputy arrested the youths in the car at shotgun-point and forced them to lie down in the mud.

Brent Floyd was forced to spend the night in jail on an offense that would have carried only a $50 fine upon conviction, Floyd said. In the ad, Floyd called for Young to be fired or tried for perjury for giving false testimony under oath. Young's suit states the ad "further accused Deputy Young of being incompetent and untrustworthy. Said editorial exposes petitioner to disrepute and ridicule and lowers him in the opinion of his colleagues, the courts and the general public by picturing him as one who is incompetent and dishonest." Young said Floyd's accusations "constitute an unwarranted, false, malicious and libelous attack on his professional skill and on his personal and professional reputation." Young is seeking $50,000 for "humiliation and mental suffering resulting from the the publication" of the ad; $100,000 for injury to his personal and professional reputation; and $50,000 for "injury done him in the performance of his duties and the loss of public confidence plus interest on the amount awarded and all legal costs. A suit outlines the grievance of one party against another and does not present both sides of the issue.

day's presidential election than in the 1983 gubernatorial primary, according to Commissioner of Elections Jerry Fowler. "The number of absentee ballots cast for the upcoming presidential (election) will be about 18,000 less than the number cast in the past gubernatorial (election)," Fowler said. "Registrars of voters throughout the state have nearly 40,000 absentee ballots to be counted on election day," he said, "and even though there still may be some mail ballots out, this is far short of the number cast in the last governor's race." More than 59,000 absentee ballots were cast in the 1983 primary with registration at 2,135,771. Registration has increased by 126,330 since that time. Fowler said the smaller number of absentee voters could mean voter turnout will not be as large as expected.

Fowler said his office will be open from 6 a.m. until late Tuesday night to handle unusual problems. Anyone needing help on election day should call (504) 925-7885. Problems with voting machines should be reported to commissioners at the polling places.
