(2:00) 9pm 'One of the Boys' Airs: 8:30 p.m. on NBC NOTES By LANE CROCKETT The Timet Maria Conchita Alonso took NBC's One of the Boys sitcom for two reasons.

The character reminded her of herself, and it breaks the Latino stereotype. In One of the Boys, she portrays Maria, a Venezuelan immigrant who gets a job as a bookkeeper at an all-male construction company. The show, debuting at 8:30 tonight, co-stars Robert Clohessy, Amy Aquino, Dan Hedaya, Michael De-Luise, Billy Morrissette and Justin Whalin. "The character is just like me," says Alonso in a thicklsh accent. "In general, we're most alike In that we're fighters and winners in life.

We go for it. We're stubborn and kind of crazy. "And I like the role because most times Latins are portrayed as low class. In this case, Maria comes from a family with money. She doesn't want any help, though.

She wants to make it on her own. I have been lucky. I've had no problems doing anything. But I do see this show as a good opportunity to show Latins with class and education." Moviegoers know Alonzo for her starring roles in Moscow on the Hudson with Robin Williams, Extreme Prejudice with Nick Nolte and Colors with Robert Duvall. She's guest starred on Fantasy Island and Knightrider.

In her native Venezuela, she's known as a top soap opera star and as a singer. In fact, she's been nominated for two Grammy Awards for best Latin pop performance and best Latin artist. "This is going to be a very comfortable job," says Alonso, who is making her American TV series debut. "First of all, I love acting. Mill mWtS! nr? 1 1 rP: dl htc ii Every week you get a new script.

That's good because you can do different things every week. "If this is a hit, which I know it's going to be, then many other things will be easier for me. I could get better movie scripts and do what I want to do. Lately, I've been getting not-so-great scripts. And then, of course, I can be putting aside money." She's no stranger to comedy.

Even though she is a star of soaps, she says most of her roles have had comic shadings. "I mean they've been funny even when they've been suffering. You know, our big soaps are not on in the daytime. They're on at night." The actress considers herself pretty funny. "That is, if I'm not in a bad mood.

If I am, then don't talk to me. My anger takes a long time to come out. Once it does, I fight and scream." Her simultaneous career singing has been on the back burner since her acting has revved up, but she has not put it aside. She describes herself as a mid-tempo ballad singer. "I cut my first album at the same time I got my first job in a soap.

I had three No. 1 hits." She pauses. "Acting is easier. As an actress, you don't have to go to every country and every city and do TV, like you do when you're a pop singer. As an actress, I have more privacy ana Maria Conchita Alonso stars as a bookkeepper for Robert Clohessy, the owner of an all-male construction firm.

peace. But, you know, as a singer I got to travel and do concerts. I will get back to singing." She doesn't stray too far from music. She turns on MTV whenever she is home. "Why not? I am a musician.

I just do things around the house with MTV on. I "love Stevie Nicks, Lita Ford and Bon Jovi." When she isn't working, Alonso likes to lie in the sun, play guitar and write song lyrics. "And I like motorcycles," she adds. Now ABC News will devote several hours to examine D.C.'s drug-related killing spree first in a prime-time Koppel Report: D.C. Divided City Thursday, April 27, at 9 p.m., followed later by an expanded Nightline "town meeting" among city officials and D.C. denizens. Ted Kop-pel will anchor both reports, which will use the city to reflect a national drug crime wave. BEASTLY: Watch for the beastly side of CBS cult series Beauty and the Beast to get more attention soon.

Ratings slipped dramatically this season after the producers decided to explore life in those murky tunnels, and the stories got terribly gooey and dewy-eyed. Action and danger now are the buzzwords from creator-supervising producer Ron Koslow, who plans to investigate Vincent's (Ron Perlman) uncontrollable animal side the growly aspect of his nature that so troubles the winsome Catherine (Linda Hamilton). Also, Edward Albert returns as Catherine-smitten tycoon Elliott Burch, and underground villain Paracelsus (Tony Jay) resurfaces in the season's final three shows, a clif fhanger in which evil Mr. P. tries to split up the lovers.

And while we're on the subject, here finally (after many requests) is the address of the Beauty and the Beast International Fan Club 1 0 annual membership): P.O. Box 2184, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52406-2185. GOOD OLD DAO: The Family Channel certainly won't rock the family that watches TV together with its latest stunt: a seven-hour Father Still Knows Best marathon planned for Father's Day, June 18. Wednesday, host Elinor Donahue joined her co-stars (Robert Young, Jane Wyatt, Lauren Chapin and Billy Gray) for taping reminiscences to air between the episodes. MIAMI FAREWELL: With Miami Vice's end in sight now that NBC has consigned its remaining eight hours to its former low-profile Friday time period we should note an odd coincidence concerning the two-hour finale.

Ian McShane, the British actor now bedding Linda Gray's Sue Ellen on Vice competitor Dallas, has been cast in the Vice finale as a Latin American dictator, whom our heroes (Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas) must hustle out of the country, south of the border. Copies of the script floating around Hollywood, as is typical in these matters, are missing the final pages, fueling previous speculation that one of the Vice guys could meet a sorry fate. Fatal finishes, however, are said to have negative impact on TV series' afterlife in syndication, so Vice's final fade is anyone's guess. The remaining seven episodes, however, are said to examine the cops' disenchantment and burn-out after five years on the beat. IN THE NEWS: More scrutiny ahead for Washington, DC, which recently was profiled as a Spring premiere Joe Lara stars as "Tarzan in Manhattan," a light-hearted adventure based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic characters, at 8 tonight on CBS.

'One of the Boys' at 8:30 p.m..
