Miss Virginia Slier of Plcher visited In Newtonla. Sunday. Dr. Evans of Joplln was In Newtonla recently looking 1 over the field with a view to locating here for the practice of his profession. Citizens of Newtonla and Stark City are pleased with the prospects of having a reliable doctor locate here.

The school Hems credited to Newtonla In the Neosho Times last week should have been headed "Wentworth" and was due to an error In the make-up of the paper. Newtonia has nine months of school and its session will not come to a close until some time In May. Rev. Van Slant, a Baptist missionary will preach at the Methodist Episcopal church Tuesday evening. Mr.

and Mrs. Vowels visited in Granby, Monday. Miss Kunice Pearson, of Denver, who has been visiting her sister. Miss Nlta Waddle at Spring City for the past two weeks, is in Newtonla this week grandmother, that her brothers and sisters have good positions in Denver and are more than pleased with their location. Our big-hearted Democrat, Jim Street has had a tussle with the Mrs.

Mrs. Sarah Brown and Mr. and Mrs. H. M.

Kitehey of Neosho, all former residents of this place attended the funeral of Mrs. Bertha Snyder here Thursday. Arthur Lucas of Springfield visited his brother, Frank, Sun- is here in his old home town visiting his many friends. Mr. and Mrs.

Sam Troxel made a visit to Sarcoxie last week to visit their son, Herbert and wife. Mrs. Troxel was quite 111 while there but is now recovering. J. B.

Gilley was called to Webb City Sunday to visit his nephew Mr. Estis who has been seriously ill. Burnola Weems and wife and Miss Dottle attended a meeting of the Eastern Star lodge in Qranby Friday evening. Mrs. Weems and Miss Dottle were initiated into the order.

Mrs. Floyd Kritz, who is our efficient telephone operator has been ill for some time. Her place at the local switch board has been taken by Miss Kosa Kritz. Mr. and Mrs.

F. O. Depriest of Sarcoxie were guests of friends here, Monday. Mrs. John Powell who has been making her home with relatives in Purdy since the death of her husband, died Saturday and was buried In the I.

O. O. F. cemetery, Sunday. Rev.

Walch preached the funeral at the M. E. Miss Pansy Alexander and Miss Irene Marshall returned to Joplln Sunday. The members of the Baptist church of this place are remodeling, repairing and otherwise Improving their church building. Among other things they arc putting in a furnace. They have accepted an Invitation to worship with the Methodists until their own building is ready for use. Mrs.

McEstis and son, Orville, Mrs. Homer Hewlett and children and Miss Thelma Chapman shopped in Neosho, Kriday. Mrs. Alice Craton returned Thursday from a week's visit with her brother, Arthur and family In Joplln. Mrs.

Mildred Graves and family visited relatives in this city Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ferguson of visited K. Lacy Sun- clay.

Mrs. Ferguson remained for a week's visit svith her parents. Rufsoll Ouncan who has boon 111. was taken to St. James hospital Sunday.

Leon Lemastor and father visited Mr. Camp in Joplin Sunday. Hoy Lucas of Kayetto wired his father, Frank Lucas, of his illness--, stating that ho would be unable to attend his aunt's funeral whirli was held here Sunday. Mrs. Leake of Monett spent Sunday with her 'sister, Mrs.

Mntnio Garner. Mrs. Christian of Rocky Comfort who is spending the winter in Newtonia with her daughter, Mrs. Joe Williams, is announcing the birth of her first grandchild, Robert Allen Christian, the son of Mr. and Mrs.

Victor Christian. Mrs. Christian before her marriage was Miss Leona Hounshol, one of Nowtonia's most successful teachers. 'Mrs. Sams, a former resident of this place died Friday at the homo of her daughter, Mrs.

Robert Elmore in Webb City. She is survived by two other daughters, both of whom live in Kansas City; and one son, Oscar, who could not be located. Three months ago he left for the southern gold fields. Mrs. Sams was 94 years old.

She was buried in the I. O. O. F. cemetery at Newtonia.

Mrs. M. Pierce who has been visiting her daughters in Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky and I Florida has returned home. She also visited 1. M.

Pierce. After the close of Drury college in Springfield where her son Judson is attending school, the family will return to Neosho. The road work leading out to highway 16, which Is being done by Newton county and the citizens 'of this community is progressing. The road to the cemetery can now be used, The telephone into Granby will be out of commission for a while and all messages will be relayed through Neosho. Mrs.

Bertha Snyder, who died last week at her home in Neosho and who was buried in the Newtonia I. O. O. F. cemetery Thursday of last week was born in 1876 and was educated in the Newtonia school.

She was the eldest daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. W. Harrison and the granddaughter of one of Newton county's best dentists, the late Dr. W.

L. she was a niece of Dr. J. B. Hancock, Mrs.

J. O. Clark ai)d Mrs. A. J.

Besides her husband and children she left a dear mother, Mrs. Ella Harrison who resided with her. Jack visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fate, Reynolds Sunday. They attended Mountain Grove Sunday school in the afternoon. Mr.

and Mrs. Curtis York spent Sunday at the Ashley Capps home. A birthday dinner was given, Sunday, In honor of Henry Harris Many of the Shiloh folks attended. Daisy and Curtis Reynolds were visitors of the Ritchey Baptist Sunday school last Sunday. Mrs.

G. W. Mullens, Mrs. and daughter, Marjorie Ann, and Mrs. Myrtle Norrls and daughter, Marth Ann of Neosho, visited at the home of Mrs.

Clyde Douthitt Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sharp and family of Oklahoma City are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mi Miss Elizabeth Neil of Newtonia visited at the home of Clyde Douthitt two nights of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Musgrove and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Porter of near Wentworth visited at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Freeman Godfrey and family, Sunday. RITCHIOY SCHOOL NOTES The Eighth Grade mot at this school last Thursday, for the purpose of taking their final exams. The girls' quartette of the Ritchey high school composed of Henrietta English, Elizabeth Armstrong, Helen and Naomi Douthitt, entered the musical contest held at Springfield, Wednesday of last week. While the girls didn't win a prize, we were proud to know they won fourth place as there were 13 other girls' quar- tettes that entered against them.

Don't forget, the operetta which will be given Friday night by the elementary grade pupils of the Ritchey school. POOL PRAIRIE It seems that we are doomed to have a very late Spring. It is thought about all the fruit is killed or so badly damaged that it will fall off the trees. The Northview and the West Benton schools both closed last Friday for this year. Do not think they have hired teachers, for next year yet.

There seems to be more flu around over the neighborhood now than there has been since the war. Lena, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sprenkle, is quite sick; also Orville McMurtrey and Herbert Carey, at the T. A.

Robins home. Mrs. William Bond died at the home of her son, Theodore, in the Clover Leaf district, last Friday night after a long illness, with consumption. She was nearly seventy years of age. She is survived besides her husband, by three daughters and four sons, Mrs.

Martha Lad UP, Mrs. Daisy Ritchey, Mrs. Lola Harmon. The sons are Ollic, Bert, Len and Theodore at whose home she. died.

Four sisters, Nancy, Mrs. Jennie Warner, Nettie and Cora; two brothers. John Lane and Sam Lane. One son lives In Pennsylvania and did not get here for the funeral, which was held at" the Liberty Baptist church on Sunday. She had been a member of the Baptist church for forty- four years.

The services were, in charge of the Rev. Stevenson, and burial at Oakwood cemetery, Sunday afternoon. Mr. Kratzer is building another poultry house, a small one. If a man enjoys his automobile what if it does keep him poor? Something else would.
