raised their wholesale gasoline prices by between a half penny and 2 cents a gallon Thursday and dispelled the belief that the recent runup at the pump was a traditional Memorial Day event Mobil, the nation's fourth largest gasoline marketer, lifted its wholesale gasoline prices by 2 cents a gallon in the western United States. Texaco, ranked fifth, boosted its prices in a range of a half cent to 2 cents a gallon on a market-by-market basis. Sunoco, the 11th largest marketer and a division of Sun increased its gasoline prices by 0.5 to 2 cents a gallon in certain Midwest and Northeastern markets. "Wholesale and retail gasoline prices historically have risen prior to the Memorial Day weekend," said Dan Lundberg, publisher of the Los Angeles-based Lundberg Letter that tracks the U.S. gasoline market.

"But prices are continuing the climb, although not at such a rapid rate as in the week preceding Memorial Day," he said. "This takes some of the folklore out of the holiday pricing notion." In the week ended May 28 just before the Memorial Day weekend got underway, wholesale prices for regular leaded gasoline (before taxes) sold to conventional dealers surged by 2.83 cents to 99 17 cents a gallon, Lundberg said. In the following week ended June 4 wholesale gasoline prices in this category topped the $1 mark and rose 1.29 cents to $1.0046 cents a gallon. Informant Leads Feds To 3 Bodies NKW YORK (LTI) An informant who told federal investigators he could lead them to the secret graves of 14 underworld murder victims has already helped officials find three bodies, it was reported Thursday. The KB I and New York City police said they were aware of the investigation, but referred all calls to a the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan. Assistant U.S. Attorney Walter Mack, who is heading the special strike force probe, refused to speak to reporters.
