FRIDAY, JUNE 30, 1967 ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH PAGE A-11 'How-to' for Tire Changers This advice is intended marily for lady drivers, but we've a sneaking notion that more than one muscular male could profit from the message. It has to do with automobile tires and air or lack of it and nuts 'n' bolts, lug wrenches, 2x4s, and a smudge on the end of a cute little nose. In short, it's a "how-to" piece -told in words and photos on changing an automobile tire without: 1) a handsome Galahad, 2) an excess of grime or grease and 3) an accident to yourself, your nylons or the car. All it takes, girls, is a little forethought and a very minimum of muscle. At any rate, that's what the National Safety Council tells us: Let's try it by the numbers to see if it all makes sense.

First, equip your car with a few "extras" not supplied by Detroit. These include clean rags, several packets of moistened paper towels (like the kind you get when you eat chicken in a restuarant), a rubber mat, a pair of work gloves, "4-way" lug wrench, a heftyscrewdriver, a small board, two short 2x4s (swiped from hubby's workshop), a trouble light andor flares and, of course, a jack. which unlike the other things came with the car. Waiting for that thump. thump, thump is no time to learn how the jack works.

Or whether or not you have a spare tire in traveling condition. If Mack the Bread Winner can't help you, check with your neighborhood service station. Just for drill, let's assume you're out 20 miles from nowhere and you feel an abnormal pull on the steering wheel. If it's not one of the kiddies teething or trying to make like Stirl-2) ing Moss, it undoubtedly means a flat. Don't panic.

Remeber you've read this article and you're a Fully Qualified Tire Changer, First Class. Hold the wheel steady, apply the brakes lightly and slowly and get off the preferably onto a flat stretch. If you're on a hill, face the into the hill so that it won't Married in Caseyville Announcement is being here of the marriage of Miss Kathalyn Page Mohundro and Ronald Louis Mueller on June 3 in St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Caseyville, at a 10 o'clock nuptial Mass. The bride is the daughter of Mrs.

Alice Mohundro, and George Mohundro of East Alton. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin J. Mueller of Collinsville.

The bride wore a white crepe floor-length gown and train, trimmed with heavy Venise lace. Her short silk illusion veil was fastened with a flower cluster of pearls, and she carried a cascade bouquet of gardenias. A cousin of the bride from East Alton, Miss Lydia Holder, was, the bride's attendant. She wore a cornflower blue floor length gown. fashioned with an empire bodice and sheath skirt.

She carried a colonial bouquet of white mums and blue roll sideways off the jack. If you cant' get off the road, turn on your emergency flashers and be extra cautious. It's possible for children to rock the car 'off the jack, SO have all your passengers get out and stay well away from the car and the road. Okay? Still alive? Still with us? Then follow the bouncing ball across the accompanying photographs, and don't be too surprised if, when the time comes for you to actually change a tire: 1) you can do it (without killing yourself) and someone comes to your assistance just as you place the flat tire in the trunk. PHOTO 1: At first signs of a flat tire, get the car off the road.

To prevent it from slipping off the jack, leave the car in first gear or in "park," set the parking brake and place the 2x4s snugly against the front and rear of the tire opposite the flat. If it's dark, set up trouble lights or flares SO that oncoming traffic can see you. Put on gloves to protect your hands and keep them from getting dirty. PHOTO 2: Set the jack at the point on your car that is best according to the owner's manual. If the ground is soft, set the jack on a small board.

Now pump the jack until it is firmly in place but has not yet begun to lift the car. You'll be much more comfortable and your job will be easier if you kneel, so Honor Son, Fiancee Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Selkirk, 1508 Seminary will be hosts at a rehearsal dinner at 8 p.m. today in the Colonial Supper Club honoring their son, Marshall, and his fiancee, Miss Judy Ostendorf, Poag Road, Edwardsville.

PINCKNEY M.D.

CATIICY PINCKNEY 4-30 Is there parental objection to young persons' opinions? Answer: Many parents objects when their sons or daughters begin to make decisions of their own and voice opinions that differ widely from their parents' ways of thinking. In many cases, it is done merely to test the youngster's existence as an individual apart from the family. This questioning of parental values is an attempt on the part of the young person to grow up, and is rec-, ognized as such by emotionally healthy parents. Do most delinquent children have a low 1.0.? Answer: No. It has been said that the greatest cause of delinquency and crime is low grade mentality.

This theory has been repeatedly disproved. More than just a handful of delinquents have very high intelligence, and are even classi(O 1967, King fled as "gifted" children. Answer: It would seem so, at least if stress is measured by an individual's cholesterol level. There are many who feel that cholesterol is a basic indicator of the amount of tension a person is under.

Should this prove to be a reasonable measure of one's anxiety, the women will have physiological evidence that they suffer more stress than men. But the trend reverses after the age of 45, when the cholesterol values of men exceed that of women. Inv.)
