Here's all it takes to whiz up a dramatic blousejacket in less than one hour! You need: Scarf for the back of the blouse. Scarf 2, to be cut in half to create two front panels (called scarf 2A and 2B on the diagram), Scarf 3, to be cut in half to create two sleeves (called scarf 3A and 3B on the diagram). We've used three 21 -inch squares for the pattern. To give, a longer, looser look, follow this same pattern but use larger squares.

Step-by-step directions: Step 1. Cut scarves 2 and 3 in half. Step 2. Sew scarf 2A to scarf 1 to form the back and one front panel of the scarf blouse. Step 3.

Sew scarf 3 A to scarves I and 2A to form one sleeve panel. Step 4. Fold along the shoulder seam, and sew scarves I and 2A together to form one side seam. Step 5. Sew scarf 2B to scarf 1 to form the second front panel.

Step 6. Sew scarf 3B to scarves I and 2B to form the second sleeve panel. Step 7. Again, fold along the shoulder seam, this time sewing scarves 1 and2l3 together to form the second side seam. Step 8.

Leave sleeves open at the bottom seam to form "butterfly sleeves," or seam each to make closed sleeves. (Atlantic SD 19173) Withstanding repeated personnel changes has become the acid test of many a rock group. And high among the ranks of survivors is Genesis. With the release of.

And Then There Were Three. comes the loss of guitarist Steve Hackctt, leaving the burden of continuity to the remaining Tony Banks (keyboards), Phil Collins (drums, vocals) and Mike Rutherford (guitars, bass). The trio confidently fills the gap. The fortress-like wall of sound that has long since become the trademark of Genesis provides a stronghold for the group's undaunted outlook. "Down and Out" boldly proclaims their successful survival you're slow they'll run past you.Stand tall, see them falling Woven into this manifesto of rock mettle is a tapestry of imaginary landscapes filled with the struggling mythic heroes that Genesis has learned to depict so well.

If Genesis can bring this instinct for survival from the studio to their live performances, they should continue to be a mainstay on the contemporary rock scene. Rupert Holmes: Pursuit Of Happiness (Private Stock PS 7006) The debut of Rupert Holmes' Widescreen in 1973 unveiled a singer songwriterarranger with a wide-range talent. His romantic theatrical fantasies were mixed with such crisp articulate productions that, although the album failed to break the charts, it seemed to herald a future blockbuster. Three albums later, Rupert Holmes tries once again. Pursuit Of Happiness represents an artist on the upswing after what must have been 5 disappointing years.

The theatricality is gone, but the romanticism and the wit for a smart lyric and musical twist remain. After the perfunctory search for a single Is Holmes jumps back on the track where he is most comfortable. His songs of love demonstrate the unique mixture of sentiment and humor which keeps the bittersweet at a bearable low. But the major strength of Pursuit Of Happiness is Holmes' production. He finds the perfect technical vehicles for what might otherwise be mediocre efforts.

After all is sung and pressed, Pursuit Of tlappiness just might end up being another back-of-the-shclfer except for those of us who reali.c that Rupert Holmes is a talent you somehow can't forget. Working At Home (Someone Else's) Those lazy, leisure-filled summer days are nearly here, but unless you have a job lined up, you may be looking forward to several weeks ot boredom. If you like children and aren't afraid of some light housework, you may want to become a mother's helper. Though traditionally a girl's job, qualified boys can also perform the required tasks. Salaries range from $20 to $100 per week (depending on age, local customs and scope of duties) in addition to room and board.

A mother's helper is usually treated as a family member whose job it is to assist with (not take over) household chores. And, when the family goes on vacation, the mother's helper usually goes along, too. If you're interested in this type of job, check with friends and neighbors and keep a close watch on your newspaper's classified ads. For Children Of Alcoholics Growing up in a home where one or both parents are habitual drinkers can evoke feelings of anger, hopelessness and guilt in the teenager who witnesses their suffering. Viewing the problem as a disgrace rather than a disease, many adolescents avoid discussing the situation.

Attempts to make the drinker quit often result in shouting matches which put the solution farther out of reach. There is hope, however. Alateen, a member of the Al-Anon group of family services, consists of hundreds of groups of teenagers across the country who help each other to cope with the problems of growing up in an "alcoholic household." The purpose of Alateen lies not in helping the alcoholic to stop drinking, but rather in showing the teen how to make the most of his or her life in spite of the negative conditions at home. Alateen stresses these important facts to its members: Alcoholism is a disease and someone suffering from it should not be condemned. Teens should not view their parent's problem as their own; emotional detachment is needed in order to cope with the situation.

Understanding and feeling compassion (rather than arguing, pleading and making excuses for the drinker) arc the best allies in fighting the problem. For more information on Alateen and Al-Anon (for husbands, wives and friends of alcoholics), call your local Al-Anon Information Service or write to: Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, PO Box 182, Madison Square Station, New York, NY 10010. 10V SO pi SIIOUI.DF.R SEAM BC SHOULDER SEAM FOLD -4 -FOLD- 10' 10V 21' 104" MS 9s SCARF 1 10. irA'- 21" 3B 1 3A 3B 2B 2A 3A '3 BACK FRONT Eight simple steps, and there's your scarf blouse!
