Remington 870 2028M- Plain barrel 1 39.88 made It a point to meet ith Hayes on Friday to inform him that he would be working the Ohio State sideline and that he knew to stay within his bounds. Flemming said Hayes' reply was, "See that you do." ABC's official spokesmen were gone within minutes after the game and Freedman also was unavailable. A member of the crew in the truck outside the stadium said Roone Arledge, president of ABC Sports, wanted to talk to Freedman before the network would make any official comment Hayes was asked about the incident in his post-game news conference. "Awww, go ahead and write that," he replied testily. "How would you like it if they stuck microphones in your face all the time? Hayes then abruptly ended his news conference and walked out of the room.

Hayes and some of his players also were involved in a brief pre-game scuffle with Michigan supporters when the Ohio State team ran to mid-field under a huge Michigan banner instead of going straight to its bench. ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) In (he waning moments of Michigan's nationally televised 14-f loss to Ohio State Saturday, losing Coach Woody Hayes vented his frustration at Mike Freedman, an ABC cameraman working the Ohio State sideline. With four minutes left to play, Michigan's John Anderson caused Ohio State quarterback Rod Gerald to fumble the ball and Derek Howard recovered for the Wolverines at the Michigan 18, ending the Buckeyes' last real threat. The volatile Hayes slammed his earphones to the ground, then noticed the ABC sideline camera focusing on his reactions.

Hayes charged at the cameraman and pun-ched him in the stomach. Viewers around the country saw Hayes approach, then the picture swung wildly out of control before the director switched to a view from another camera. Bill Flemming, ABC's sideline commentator, said he didn't see the incident but that he heard Chuck Howard, the producer in the ABC truck outside the stadium, say through the headphones that Hayes had hit Freedman. Flemming also noted that Freedman had Remington 870 Vent rib 1228MF, 1230F, 1228F, 2028M 159.88 7" 169.88 189.88 8 only! Remington 1100 1228M -Plain barrel 33 only! The victory before a record Husky Stadium crowd of 60,964 and a regional television audience boosted Washington into sole possession of the Pacific-Eight Conference lead with a 6-1 record.

UCLA, 5-1 in the Pac-8, meets Southern Cal next Friday night in their traditional season-ending game. A USC victory would send the Huskies to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 14 years. Moon, Washington's senior quarterback, passed 33 yards to Joe Steele for a touchdown to cap a 79-yard march in seven plays with the opening kickoff. Two minutes later, Moon hit Scott Greenwood with a 33-yard TD pass. Colorado 25-14 FORT COLLINS, Colo.

(AP) Colorado State's aroused defense, spearheaded by tackle Mike Bell and linebacker Dana Isoline, accounted for a touchdown and a safety, and Tom Drake kicked three field goals as the Rams upset 12th-ranked Arizona State 25-14 Saturday in Western Athletic Conference football. The Sun Devils, suffering their first loss in conference play, were unable to move the ball effectively against the Ram defense, which received an assist from freezing temperatures and a second-half snowstorm. The two Arizona State scores followed Ram turnovers just minutes apart in the second quarter. Michigan 22-16 IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) Tailback Steve Smith ran 10 yards for a touchdown and quarterback Ed Smith hit Jim Earley on a 2-yard touchdown pass as Michigan State defeated Iowa 22-16 in a Big Ten Conference football game completed in near darkness Saturday. Hans Nielsen kicked field goals of 45 and 19 yards for the Spartans, increasing his Big Ten Conference record to 44 three-pointers.

Iowa kicker Dave Holsclaw booted field goals of 47, 48 and 51 yards with the help of a cold, 30 mile an hour wind, breaking Hawkeye records for distance and number of field goals in a season. Nick Quartaro held the old Iowa record with a 50-yard kick, and Quartaro shared the old season mark of seven with Al Schuette. Iowa's lone touchdown came on a 25-yard pass from Tom McLaughlin to tight end Jim Swift. Memphis 28-14 WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Steve Fuller threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Butler with 49 seconds to play to give Clemson a 31-27 college football victory over traditional rival South Carolina Saturday and a berth in the Gator Bowl against lOth-ranked Pitt. The 15th-ranked Tigers saw their 24-0 lead vanish in a furious South Carolina attack that put 27 points on the board late in the game, televised regionally. But steady Fuller propelled the Tigers on a 67-yard march in the final two minutes before hitting Butler with the game-winning pass.

With two minutes to play, Ron Bass passed 40 yards to Phil Logan for a touchdown to put South Carolina ahead for the only time, 27-24. The Clemson victory gave the Tigers a 8-2-1 record, while the Gamecocks fell to 5-6. Clemson dominated the game between the cross-state rivals until late in the third period when the Gamecocks solved the riddle of the Tiger defense and got on the scoreboard with the game's most spectacular play, a 77-yard touchdown run by Spencer Clark. N. Carolina, 1 6-3 DURHAM, N.C.

(AP) North Carolina freshman Amos Lawrence scored one touchdown and kicker Tom Biddie added three field goals as the 18th-ranked Tar Heels wore down Duke for a 16-3 victory and clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference football championship. Immediately after the game, North Carolina accepted a bid to play in the Liberty Bowl. Duke quarterback Mike Dunn was hurt and taken from the game after being hit by UNC's Dee Hardison with 5:45 remaining in the game. Dunn was carried off the field on a stretcher and taken from the game in an ambulance. Hardison, who was charged with a personal foul penalty on the play, apparently hit Dunn on the back of the helmet and he lunged to make a tackle.

Lawrence, whose one-yard scoring run in the first quarter was the only touchdown for North Carolina, rushed for a total of 138 yards and the rugged Tar Heel defense kept Duke and Dunn stymied most of the game. Biddle's kicks of 25, 26 and 39 yards gave him 15 field goals for the season, setting a school record. 4 only! (AP) Scott Arnett scored two touchdowns and Darrick Burnett added one Saturday while the Indiana defense shut off Purdue's running game and made three key pass interceptions off Mark Herrmann as the Hooslers beat the Boilermakers 21-10 in their Big 10 football season finale. The victory for the Old Oaken Bucket left the Hooslers at 5-5-1, their best finish since 1968, and it marked the first time Indiana has beaten Purdue two years in a row since 1946-47. Burnett, a junior tailback, rushed for 195 yards and scored Indiana's first touchdown on a 6-yard run that tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter. Arnett, the Hoosier quarterback, scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third period, then capped an 84-yard drive in the closing minutes with another I-yard plunge that iced the game. Herrmann, the Big Ten passing leader, guided the Boilermakers to their only touchdown in the second quarter and to a third-period field goal by Scott Sover-een.

But Indiana's Dale Keneipp made two interceptions off the Boilermaker freshman and Dave Abrams picked off one pass to give him a school record of seven Interceptions this season.
