Muir, a8 administrator of the Lambert estate at Willits, received a check from the Home Mutual Fire Insurance Company' $1,933.55 This amount--less some $367 because of depreciation and the saving of one building -represents the full insurance carried on the recently destroyed property of the estate at Willite. The payment was made promptly upon adjustment of the lows and is satiafactory to all partios concerned. Stockbuyer J. A. Kelting has been in the Cummings und Bell's Springs sections the past fortnight buying mutton sheep. Ile is now on his way to this city, we are informed, with quite a large drove. There are plenty of lambs on the ranges and lambing is not yet at an end.

The present weather could not be better for the youngsters. but should storin of vere nature BOON appear the fatality would undoubtedly be lurge. The different families living in Blue Rock achool distriet intend to jointly contribute the necessary lumber and labor for the erection of a needed new schoolhouse. The building will be finished in time for the spring term which opens in April. M.

V. Helm, of Laytonville, who was so badly hurt last week by being bucked onto the hames of his harnessed horse, an account of which appoured in our last I issue, is getting along favorably, though it will be some days before he cau leaye his bed. Sam Wheeler, S. D. Paxton and Dr.

G. W. Stout have purchased 40 acres of land on Mill Creek, east of the Mendocino Insane Asylum, from Mrs. J. Diddle, and will build a comfortaule summer resort for themselves thereon.

It is a delightful place. Mrs. Toney, widow of the late Seth Toney, an old resident of this county, died at the residence of her son-in-law, G. W. English, in this place, on Saturday last.

Deceased was 8 very highly respected old lady. She leaves a large family of grown and danghters in this county to' lament her loss. The Ferndale Enterprise reports that L. P'. Branstetter started from there Feb.

20th with another band of beef for Mendocino county. Mr. Branstetter has brought several droves to Fort Bragg and Mendocino in the last three months, the present scarcity of beef creating a price that well justifies his trips. John D. Dickens, of Hearst, was in town last Monday.

He says everything nice in the Eel river country at present. Salmon tishing is good, and is furnishing grent aport. for fishermen. Mr. Dickens brought down a nice lot of weighing from ten to eigteen pounde each which he diaposed of here very quickly.

Edward Lahue, of this valley, whose wife suddenly disappeared nearly two weeks ago, taking with her their youngest child, Bessie, found the woman San Francisco, on Saturday, and returned to Ukiah the following morning with the little girl. The runaway wife was at the Tiburon ferry depot when Lahue went through the gute with the child in his arms. She created considerable excitement by her attempts to regain possession of Bessie.

Roberts came to Mendocino only six years ago, and had but eighty-five cents upon his arrival. Though he has had 8 large family to support he has by economuy and hard work managed to keep them very comfortably beaides buying for self a nice piece of timber and farming land situated about eix miles from Ukiah on the Hot Springs road. Mr. Roberta follows chiefly the business of getting out tanbark and oak wood, both which ships by way of Ukiah to San Francisco. He has now at the local depot 60 cords of tan oak and before spring expects to add 140 cords more to the pile.

He has not yet sold this wood as Iverson the San Francisco wood buyers, are offering but $6 per cord this season on board the cars in Ukiah. This price he refuses in the belief that the little better figure paid last season will return with the advent of apring. Mr. Roberts states that it costs him complete to get out the wood and pluce-it at the depot just $4 per cord. He cut and sold nearly 100 corde last and at the market price then did very well out of it.

His neighbors also got out large quantities and likewise did well. Mr. Roberts and his neighbors also marketed a great deal of tanbark last season for which they received in Ukiah $10.50 and $10.75 per cord, and they hope to market as much this year, but at a little better price. Mr. Roberts has a flourishing little orchard on his place, consisting principally of apples.
