cu away irom Micmgan aiaie ior Jrt- I ft An Cm i je -2 By George Whitley Staff Writer KILGORE An outstanding rushing performance turned in by Willie Mozeke, coupled with a very stingy defense, paced the Kilgore College Rangers to a 21-6 win over the Blinn Buccaneers Saturday night at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium. It was the 1989 home opener for the Rangers, who improve their seasonal slate to 2-1, while the Bucs slide to 04. Mozeke came about his start by accident as he replaced an injured Darrell Ridge, who was nursing a bruised shoulder sustained last week againsTyler.

The Wichita Falls Rider High School product made the most of his opportunity to show his stuff, rushing for 159 yards on 21 carries. In the first two periods he broke off runs of 62 and 63 yards on his way to a 148 yard half. KC built a 21-0 lead at intermission with short scoring runs by David Chapman and Joey Spartan scoring threat was snuffed when Enos' pass to Courtney Hawkins was intercepted in the end zone by Todd Lyght. Michigan State had to make do without Blake Ezor, its leading rusher and scorer, who left the game with a breastbone and shoulder injury injury after gaining 27 yards in four carries during the first quarter. The Spartans, who rushed for 415 yards in a 49-0 victory over Miami of Ohio, were held to 75 yards on 43 carries.

The Spartans capitalized on. two Irish first-half turnovers, a fumble and an interception, with John Langeloh kicking field goals of 36 and 38 yards. Michigan State (1-1) then held Irish scoreless for 33 minutes, while scoring on three Notre Dame turnovers. Michigan State quarterback Dan Enos threw the first touch-'down pass of his career, a 30-yar-der to James Bradley, bringing the Spartans within 14-12 in the Hthird quarter. Shane Montgomery threw three touchdown passes, two to Chris Corders, as 18th-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina State overpowered North Carolina 40-6. St. 29, Wyo. 23 LARAMIE, Wyo. Paul Carr's 2-yard touchdown plunge with 49 seconds to play capped a furious Washington State comeback as the 19th-ranked Cougars beat Wyoming 29-23. The victory kept Washington State perfect through four games, while Wyoming fell to 1-3.

Illinois 41, Utah St. 2 CHAMPAIGN, 111. Jeff George threw two touchdown passes and Illinois held Utah State to just 24 yards offense in the first half for a 41-2 victory. Illinois led 31-0 at halftime. From Wire Reports COLUMBIA, Mo.

Craig Erickson threw for 357 yards, and Maurice Crum returned one of Miami's six interceptions 30 yards for a touchdown, sparking the second-ranked Hurricanes to a 38-7 romp over Missouri on Saturday. After a slow start, Erickson hit 23 of 41 passes. He also scored on a 6-yard run and threw a 30-yard touchdown pass in the fourth period to tight end Rob Chudzin-ski. He was intercepted once. 0 MINNEAPOLIS Ken Clark ran 18 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns as No. 3 Nebraska avoided a slow start for the first time this season and continued its 27-year domination of the Minnesota Gophers with a 48-0 victory. Clark has rushed for 398 yards in three games and now has 2,239 career yards, moving him from 11th to seventh on the Nebraska list. No. 6 is Jeff Kinney with 2,244.

Clemson 31, Maryland 7 CLEMSON, S.C. Wesley McFadden scored on runs of 6 snd 12 yards, and Mitch Belton keyed a 21-point second quarter with a blocked punt as No. 7 Clemson ripped Maryland 31-7 in an Atlantic Coast Conference game. The game was the ACC opener for the Tigers (44) while Maryland dropped to 0-2 in the conference and is 1-3 overall. The Tigers, who trailed for the first time this season at 7-3 late in the first quarter, scored touchdowns on drives of 50, 7 and 69 yards in the second quarter.

W. Va. 30, Louisville 21 LOUISVILLE, Ky. West Virginia trailed until Eugene Napoleon's two touchdowns in the final three minutes enabled the ninth-ranked Mountaineers to escape with a 30-21 victory before a record Louisville crowd. Napoleon's 1-yard TD run over left tackle gave West Virginia (4-0) a 22-21 lead with 2:54 remaining, and his 46-yard scoring run up the middle at the 1:26 mark put the game out of reach.
