(LTD Movie producer Earl Owensby and country music star Arthur Smith want their own film distributing company and they think the fastest way to obtain one is to purchase Allied Artists Inc. Owensby said Thursday he, Smith and other investors are looking into the possibility of buying Allied, a major movie distribution firm based in New York. Owensby described Allied as one of the nation's 10 largest movie distribution companies. Owensby, owner of E.O. Picture Productions said Allied Artists is financial difficulty.

In financial circles it's common knowledge the company will be purchased." he said. "Something will happen because the company is in serious financial trouble." Owensby, a self-made millionaire, who produces low budget films for distribution overseas and at drive-in movies, refused to comment on how much money would be involved In the purchase but he said it would be a multi-million dollar deal. "With the others involved, there is no problem in handling the money," he said. Owensby said he will set up a distribution company If he is not able to purchase Allied. If the Allied deal is carried out, Owensby said he would become president and chairman of the board, of the firm, which he said he will move to North Carolina.

He said there Is a 50-50 chance North Carolina would become a major factor in the film industry if his group purchases the crtmpany. 3 A 1 START YOUR COLLECTION NOW!
