(Town Talk Photo by Tim van Riper) George Thompson, assistant principal at Peabody, stands alone in the school's cafeteria Monday. The school had a holiday in honor of the basketball team's One dl' lliri'i' Rapides Wildlife As-- sociation-sponsnred resolutions adopted at the recent Louisiana Wildlife Federation convention lias a chance of becoming state law. territorial boundaries. A bill seeking almost identical li-imitations has been prefilcd for next month's legislative session. KWA's three proposals were among iili acted upon by general session. Another by the Rapides chapter involved allowing the taking of can-vasbacks and redheads on Catahoula Lake under the same restrictions as imposed elsewhere in the stale. Intent of that resolution was to avoid wasting the resource, since occassional' one or more of these species are mistakenly shot by duck hunters who then leave them where they fall to avoid prosecution.

The other resolution, which reportedly has the governor's approval, seeks to reinstate the Sportsman's Paradise slogan on license plates without the waiting period of purchasing a new vehicle. As usual, many of the resolutions dealt with the setting of seasons and bag limits. One asked the Department of Wildlife Fisheries to move the opening of the deer season back to the day after Thanksgiving. Another requested an experimental muzzle loader season on all Wildlife Management Areas with a feasibility study to ascertain the possibility of setting such a season on a regular basis. Fstablishmont or non-resident reciprocal hunting and fishing licenses equal to that of the state from which the resident license was purchased was advocated because (if seemingly excessive fees charged Louisiana residents in some other states.

Among those dealing with angling which would affect Cenla citizens transportation, and general aid and comfort.) They treated the teanv members, coaches and principals lo dinner. "Tony Johnson, our junior guard, did a Howard Cosell show at dinner." Thompson said. "He played himself, Howard Cosell, the assisant coach, the principal, everybody. He'd imitate the way Coach (Ernest) Bowman talks, kinda quick, saying, 'I'm just glad we And he'd imitate the assistant coach Charles Smith, putting his hands up on top of his head. Johnson had eveybody in slitches.

That was definitely the highlight of the whole meal." Thompson demonstrated popular cheers the students voiced. "Who dat talking about beating those Horses?" And "Two times four equals half of sixteen, stand up and do the Warhorse lean." One of the few signs of life on the campus Monday was to be found on the baseball diamond, where preparations for spring were underway, Even here, basketball was still on everyone's mind. Delric Bonton took a break' from his duties in left field lo describe his part in Friday night's ritual. "I'm a drum major in the band, I play French horn. The band wasn't really playing Friday night, but all 111) of us were there.

We went there to cheer with our voices instead of our horns this time." By Ruth Laney Town Talk Sports Writer The parking lots were empty. Chairs were stacked on tables in the cafeteria. Red and green posters hung from the walls. Long, narrow school hallways were silent in the morning sunlight. Empty desks waited in empty classrooms.

At Peabody Magnet School, no students were on hand Monday. Peabody stuedents. all 1.200 of them, were at large, on holiday courtesy of the Peabody Warhorses, Triple-A state basketball champions. Principal Samuel McKay had declared Monday a holiday after the 'Horses beat Redemptorist 55-53 Friday night in the Top 20 championship. Peabody's star forward Paul Thompson was later named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Assistant principal George Thompson, sporting a bright green "Peabody Warhorses" T-shirt, was al work Monday catching up on paperwork and reminiscing about the night the Warhorses finally nabbed the prize which had eluded them in four previous tries. "You should have been here Friday," he said. "We had an hourly pep rally. Every lime we changed classes, we allowed five minutes extra, and the kids were cheering in the halls." In preparation for the meeting with Redemptorist' legendary 6-5 center Howard "Hi-C" Carter, the Warhorses had printed a sign that read. "Ili-C ain't nothing but a drink!" "The players went into town and bought themselves some 12-ounce cans of Hi-C drink," Thompson said.

"They poured out the drink and flattened' the cans. They carried those cans around with them all day." Thompson estimated nearly all of Peabody's students attended the game. "We probably sold close to a thousand tickets. Some of our students' had to work that night, but must of them were there." After Peabody's triumph, team "Uncles" Arthur Smith and Claude Davis paid tribute to the 'Horses. (Uncles are assigned to each Top 20 team to arrange for lodging, meals.

Pontiac Dome May Get Super HONOLULU (AP) Owners of National Football League teams were scheduled lo pick the sites of Super Bowls XV and XVI for 1981 and 1982 today and for the first time a cold weather city held a challenging position. Should the NFL accept the bid of Pontiac, and its new Silver-dome stadium, it would make the initial time the pro football championship game would take place in the northlands. New Orleans and Miami, two of the traditional southern sites for the game, are rated high, yet Pontiac has support from other cities which brave it through chilly winters. Setting the date of duck season for the eastern zone only to include as many days as possible was mainly concerned with the possibility of harvesting more mallards. Employment of an additional enforcement agent for Concordia parish was agreed to by the general membership.

Institution of a toll-free telephone "hot line" for reporting of game violations probably won't gain much legislative support because of costs. A majority of the members apparently believe hunters should "hunt" since they approved two different resolutions asking both the U. S. Forest Service and DWF to refrain from constructing any new roads or maintaining any. except essential ones, within the national forest and on W'MAs.

A proposed amendment to the Dingoll-Johnson Federal Aid to Fisheries Act to expand the base funding would bring badly needed additional monies to the DWF. The group sought to have Congressman John Breaux introduce such an amendment in the current Congressional session and also requested the aid of all members of Louisiana's delegation in Washington to support it.
