youths for the draft has reached 350 the Selective Service office in Kalispell announces Young men are required by ederal law to sign up on their 18th birthday anniversary or within five days afterward This includes members of reserve units such as the National Guard aliens high school and college students and even those physi cally or mentally unfit for mil itary service Local Board Clerk Rod Bozarth pointed out Classi fication about one month after registration takes such circum stances into consideration the clerk stated All youths born in 1947 even those born on the last day of the year should be reg istered by Jan 5 he added On Jan 3 the first day of business for the new year young men born in 1948 will start registering as they turn 18 Only boys already in the Armed orces at age 18 need not reg ister until they are released from active duty Youths away from home upon reaching 18 such as those in college should register at the nearest Selective Service office In Montana there is an office in every county seat town Bo zarth said All registrations showing a lathead County home address will be transmitted to the Kalispell office he added The local board now has about 6400 living registrants ranging age from 18 to 43 the clerk disclosed The Selective Service office is now on the second floor of the Adams building 211 Main St Office hours are 8 a to 12 noon and 1 to motor vehicles in Montana by saying it must be collected A 1965 law providing for the charge being raised from $10 to $1050 indicated without ac tually saying so that the extra 50 cents be used to provide re flectorized license plates How ever state registrar of motor vehicles EC Ellsworth Deer Lodge told the Board of Exam iners in November there was no legislative appropriation for buying the
