Longview News- Journal, Wednesday, December 4, 2002 Born Dec. 11, 1934, in Winnsboro to Ruby and Earl Glaze, Dr. Glaze was raised in Longview and was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Boy Scout Troop 201. In 1961, he graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas University. He devoted much of his life to helping care for all types of animals, practicing veterinary medicine in Longview, Mesquite, Kerrville, Benbrook, Flint and Hawkins.

He was an avid sportsman and wildlife conservationist. He was the first president of Ducks Unlimited in Longview and as a member of the Texas Bighorn Society was instrumental in leading the reintroduction and preservation of desert bighorn sheep. His commitment to bighorn sheep conservation extended to projects in Alaska, Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Canada and Mexico. He most enjoyed his days fishing with his granddaughters, who affectionately called him "Pa Pa." Dr. Glaze will be remembered as a man of great integrity, a devoted family man who placed his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

30, 2002, at his home. A military memorial service will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Hope Fellowship, 300 Hollybrook. Mr.

Longenecker was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Lancaster, Pa. After graduating from Haverford High School, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, 1942-46. During the war, he earned the Croix de Guerre (French Medal of Honor).

After returning from Europe, John retirned to college and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an ROTC commission. It was there he met his future wife. He then served in the Army reserves until 1967, when he concluded his military career as a captain. He was married on Sept. 13, 1947, and shared more than 55 years of marriage with his wife, Lee Longenecker.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by one brother and two sisters and their spouses, Bob and Marion Longenecker of Reading, Alice and Hobe Swan of Westchester, and Jane and George Fuller of Cherry. Conavicto Nelus-Tournal OBITUARIES Fred Allen Crawford A service celebrating the life of Fred Allen Crawford, 77, of Longview will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at the Rosewood Mausoleum.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today, Dec. 4, at East Texas Funeral Home in Longview. Mr. Crawford, a Longview resident since 1960, was born April 15, 1925, to Everett and Clara Crawford.

He passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a Mason and had served in World War II and the Korean War. From 1962 until 1969, Mr. Crawford owned the Harley Shop.

He remained in motorcycle repair and was a retired carpenter and millwright. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Crawford of Longview; a daughter, Cheryl Gill of Henderson; one son, James Crawford of Longview; and his grandchildren, Cherry Wilbourn, J.T. Gill and Casey Crawford. The family requests that memorials go to the American Cancer Society. He will be missed by all.

During his career, John worked for a number of years as vice president of Building Units a manufacturer of concrete products. Upon moving to Longview in 1973, he served as vice president of Flight Specialties, an aviation services company located at Gregg County Airport, until his retirement in 1987. An avid golfer, John spent more than 70 years enjoying his sport and is a member of the National Hole in One Society with two holes-in-one to his credit.

For the past 10 years, he worked part-time at Alpine Golf Course in Longview and is well-regarded by many of the Alpine regulars as a player to be on their choose team. For the past eight years, John served as tournament director for the East Texas Seniors Golf Association. Among his many interests and activities, John was an active member of Rotary International for many years, a private pilot, an active member of the Retired Military Officers Association, coordinator of the Elderville Neighborhood Watch Association and past president of the Delaware County, Sales Managers Association. Dan Miller, Dr. Bill O'Neal and the Rev. Jonathan Jehorek officiating. The music will include "It Is Well With My Soul" by soloist Tim Konvalin and organist Gwen Garrison. Burial will be in Memory Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Rathbun was born to Annie Toulan and George P. Gray on Sept. 23, 1912, in Statesboro, the youngest of the couple's 13 children.

Mrs. Rathbun was preceded in death in 1979 by her husband of 49 years, Ira Avon Rathbun, and, in 1985, by one son, Richard Byril Rathbun. She was a member of the Thelma Morgan Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Longview, where she had been a member for 51 years. Over the years, Mrs. Rathbun served on the boards of East Texas Treatment Center in Kilgore and the American Red Cross and was a volunteer Lawrence Finklea MARSHALL Graveside services for Lawrence Finklea, 83, of Flower Mound will be held at 2 p.m.

Friday in Algoma Cemetery-South. Arrangements are by Sullivan Funeral Home. Mr. Finklea died Monday at his residence. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m.

Interment will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Fuheral Home of Longview. The family will greet friends 7-9 p.m. today, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thompson died Monday morning, Dec. 2, 2002, in a Tyler hospital. A native of Marshall, she was born Nov. 8, 1942, and had lived in Longview for the past 33 years.

Mrs. Thompson was a retired waitress, having worked for the El Chico restaurant 28 years, and was also very proud to be involved in crimewatch as a C.O.P. (Citizens on Patrol) with over 500 hours of service. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her three sons, Dan Thompson (USN) of Japan, Patrick Thompson of East Mountain and Paul Thompson of Longview, and four grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Laura Glaze of Grapevine and Lynn Mikesell and her husband, Barry, and two granddaughters, Megan and Sarah Mikesell, all of Lewisville; the mother of his children and best friend, Jean Patterson Glaze of Maryville, one sister, Vivian Gordon and her husband, C.R., of Kilgore; one brother, Dr. Kenneth Glaze and his wife, Dianne, of Longview; and seven nieces and nephews, Lane Glaze of Longview, Sandra Gordon, Leslie Beaver and Rex Gordon, all of California, Grace LaMaster of Long. view, Julianne Stark of Paris and Burke Patterson of Baton Rouge, La.

His loyal and loving dog, Bo, will especially miss him. Nelda Louise Baird Buchner GARLAND Nelda Louise Baird Buchner died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002. Nelda was born in Mings Chapel on Oct. 31, 1927.

After graduating in 1945 from Union Grove High School near Gladewater, she moved to Dallas as a beautiful, wide eyed teenager to work at the old Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Dallas. She often talked about riding the old trolley cars all around Dallas, a nickel a ride. She married in 1948, and she gave birth to two sons, Jerry, in 1951, and David, in 1953. Her sons were the joy of her life. As a young Navy wife and mother, she traveled to the Far East, living for two years in the Philippine Islands and visiting exotic places for an East Texas girl: Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan.

In 1964, she moved to Dallas and remained there the rest of her life. She worked many years for Safeway at its regional offices in Dallas; and after her retirement from Safeway, she worked for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration at its Dallas field office. She had a beautiful smile, a quick, joyful laugh, and she was a loyal and faithful friend. She loved flowers, the outdoors, walking and chatting with her neighborhood friends, and she loved her family.

She was a lifelong member of the Church, of Christ. Nelda was preceded in death by her beloved father and mother, J.D. and Victoria Baird. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Charlotte Coyle and David and Tori Coyle; her sisters, Bonnie Baird, Shirley Baird Wilson and Patricia Baird Hackett; her grandchildren, Ben Coyle, Rachel Coyle, Jacob Coyle, Kace Coyle and Keaton Coyle; and her husband, Clifford Buchner. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Williams Chapel with the Rev. David Cobb officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Gilmer.

Mrs. Rathbun is survived by three sons, Ira Gray Rathbun and his wife, Jean, John P. "Casey" Rathbun and his wife, Sally, and Michael Lewis Rathbun and his wife, Diana; her daughters-in-law, Joan N. Rathbun, Sue M. Rathbun and Shelia H.

Rathbun; her grandchildren, Joanie R. Russell and her husband. Bill, W. Gray Rathbun, Matthew A. Rathbun and his wife, Claire, Eric Rathbun and his wife, Amy, Vincent Rathbun, Kelly Leigh Jennings and her husband, Jeremy, and Stacy Rathbun, Noell Rathbun and Stacey Boatright and Kevin; seven great grandchildren, Mary Virginia Russell, Emma Grace Russell, Kelsey Lynn Oubre, Laurel Boatright, Abigail Boatright, Alexandra Rathbun and John Patrick "J.P." Mrs. Plaschke passed away Monday, Dec. 1. 2002, in a Longview hospital. She was born March 1, 1931, in Groesbeck to Thomas Douglas "T.D." and Artie Bell Hobbs.

She was a homemaker and a Catholic and had worked as a legal secretary for Judge Merritt Gibson. Mrs. Plaschke is survived by her husband, Robert Plaschke of Hallsville; her daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Scott Sheridan of Longview; Kristi and James David McBride of Gladewater; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Plaschke of Hallsville and Randal and Debora Plaschke of Hallsville; nine grandchildren, Hollie Jones, Kelly Jones, Nicholas Jones, Nicole Burks, Brinson Burks, Brittany Plaschke, Stacey Plaschke, Brandon Plaschke and Kayleigh Plaschke; one sister, Patsy Plaschke of Hallsville; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Gilmer and had worked in the City of Gilmer Sanitation Department.
