tt 0 4 THE BEE EARLINI TON KY I 3ee PAUL MOORE Edtior and Publisher SUBSCRIPTION RATES one Year 100 Six months 60 Threo Months 2 Single Copies Specimen copies mailed free on application Correspondents wanted In all parts of the county Address us for par ll1rtleulars ticulars Telephone No 47 THURSDAY AUGUST 151901 WIIILK we believe in foreign missions and think it is right and proper to send missionaries to darkest Africa and heathen China we are still more in favor of doing a little missionory work at home There are children in our midst and possibly some older re persons to whom tho story of the babe cradled in a manger in Bethlehem of Judea would read like a romance While our Sun daySchools have a moderately fair attendance there are enough children on the streets on Sunday smoking cigarettes and otherwise injuring themselves to fillall of our Sundayschools to their capacity A little missionary work along this line would not be amiss If the heathen Online would attend one of our Sunday base ball games and hear the Co mauchee yells and Toton war whoops that break the calm of the Lords day they would no doubt try and send us a missionary Missions like all other good things begin at home and until vye can arrange to get the heathen at home saved it is a useless expenditure of time andI money to send missionaries to theI heathen on the other side of the I 0 world who are a law unto them I selvesC I Republicans Must Choose 1I The Republicans of other sec I tions of the State can learn a lesson from the Republicans ofI a Hopkins county Both in thel ticket and in the platform result 1 ing frem the recent county convention ti they seem to have done Unusually well Glenns Graphic edited by Demo an independent 4 crat and recognized as one ofs I the cleanest and ablest of the country papers says of thef ticket ticketNo No political party in Hopkins I county ever before nominated a cleaner or a better ticket than the 1 one that was named last Monday afternoon at the tabernacle by the Re publicans of this county From thet highest to the lowest from top tot bottom and from bottom to top it is composed of men in whom the peog plo everywhere have the utmost confidence There is not a man in the whole lot who is not a worthy And intelligent citizen a good and honorable gentleman a man who tands well In the community in I which he lives It is a sober moraln I upright ticketa ticket of which the Republicans are proud Of the platform adopted the Graphic says It is a platform that cannot be attacked successfully It is a platf form eaiy to comprehend It is a I platform that plaecs home above politics that appeals to the better element of the thinking people a platform that speaks for itself It sIs a platform that is perhaps not a wholly Republican perhaps nots wholly Democratic but a platform 1 that to a very great extent rises 4it clear above politics it With such a ticket and such a platform the Republicans of1J Hopkins county ought to have II an excellent chance to win If a similar policy had prevailed throughout Kentucky there would be no doubt of Republi can success in the legislative contest i contestThere There is one paragraph in the Hopkins resolutions especially worthy of commendation It is i this We declare that public office is a public trust and civil officers are servants of tho people Our officers i should be sober discreet moral competent and of good demeanor True merit should be the test of fitness for office Wo are opposed tot ring rule and machine methods The voice of the people should be heard il and their rights respected and interests protected Obviously tho Sapp machine could not adopt such a platform The Repuljlicm party in Louisville cannot stand for these truths without repudiating Sapp and his methods QTho Republi can State organization must repudiate Sapp or put itself in antagonism to the Republicans of Hopkins county The Republican party must be one tiling or another over the entire State It cannot stand for honesty and decency in one county and fraud and corruption in other Does Mi Snpp orthe Hopkins organi zation represent the Republicans 1of Kentucky The two methods are before the party It cannot escape a choice It must stand 1for one or the other Will it lower the Hopkins plan and seek to build up a strong and table organization in Kentucky rand by contrast in both principles and men or will it insure the triumph of the Goebel machine by embracing Goebelism and establishing it as the guiding prin ciple of the party Louisville Post August 0 ATTENTION CALLED To the Meeting
