A. HAWLEY I SONS I South Lavinia Street 'Ludington Phone 207 "DEFENDANT WENT TO HEAVEN" A circuit judge of St. Louis recently wrote on his docket: "The case is dismissed by the state because the defendant has died and gone to heaven." When asked about the notation, the judge explained in his best legal logic: "Under the law, the defendant is presumed innocent until proved guilty. This defendant was never brought to trial, so he must be presumed innocent. And all innocent people go to heaven." As logical as the judge's reasoning may have seemed to the court, he could hardly have been more wrong.

In God's sight there is no such thing as an "innocent person." In God's sight all men are guilty desperately and hopelessly guilty The Bible says: "There is not a just man on earth that doeth good and sinneth not." And again: "There is no difference, for all have sinned." If, as the Bible says, in God's sight there are no innocent people in tlus world, then, of course, there is no point to the statement, "all innocent people go to heaven." But the Bible docs tell us how guilty people get to heaven They get there by the road of repentance and faith faith Jesus Christ, tht Lamb of God who died to atone for the sins of all mankind. Only those who trust in Christ as their personal Savior are declared innocent in the sight of the divine Judge That is what the Bible means when it says: "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." The supreme question for every man, then, is am 1 "in Are you? ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN Miles North of Scott- vUle on UiS-31. K. A.
