(UPI) Flankerback Johnny Rod-gers and fullback Bill Olds galloped for electrifying touchdown runs to lead the No. 1 ranked Nebraska Corn-huskers to a 34-7 victory over Texas Saturday. Kwalick, a new face in the 49er lineup who caught six passes for 97 yards against Atlanta. Saint receivers the 49er secondary will have to be on the lookout for are Al uoaa, Danny Abramowitcz and Dave Parks, as well as Gresham, who scooped three for 51 yards Aggie Coach Gene Stallings used all three of his quarterback in an attempt to get his offense moving, but the only result was a dislocated left thumb for starter Lex James.

The Aggies' only touchdown came on a 94-yard kickoff return by wingback Hugh McElroy midway through the fourth period. It marked the first time in four games that the Aggies had gotten on the scoreboard against Nebraska. Other Nebraska scores came on a one yard plunge by games without a defeat, the quarterback Jerry Tagge and a 33-yard Tagge to Rodgers pass. game in Madison. Nebraska safety Bill Kosch added glitter to the scoring barrage when he intercepted a pass by quarterback Mark Green and ran 94 yards for the final touchdown of the game. Handicapped by two early fumbles and inability to take advantage of third down and short yardage situations, Nebraska was unable to get its offense rolling until Olds' run. The Cornhuskers had taken the ball over on their own 18 after an Aggie punt. Reserve halfback Gary Dixon carried twice for one and four yards and quarterback Jerry Taggie threw a 10-yard pass to tight end Jerry List to set up Dixon's sprint down the right sidelines which put Nebraska into the lead for good.

Texas whitewashed last week by Nebraska's 1970 Orange Bowl rival, Louisiana State, was hobbled by an aggressive Cornhusker defense that prevented the Aggies from recording a first down until there were just seconds left in the first half. (UPI)-Lightly-regarded Tulsa struck for three fourth quarter touchdowns Saturday on the passing of quarterback Todd Starks to stagger ninth-ranked Arkansas 21-20.

Starks, held in check for most of the first three quarters, hit on passes of 23, 9 and 21 yards to Dave Stewart, Drew Pearson and Larry Frey to wipe out the 20-0 lead Arkansas had built up in the first half. A enthusiastic overflow crowd of 37,000 sat back in anticipation of another Razor- back walkaway after two impressive opening season victories over California and Oklahoma State. And, for a while it looked like that was what was going to happen. Arkansas Joe Ferguson, mix ing his passes with handoffs to fullback Skipper De Borde and running backs Jon Richardson and Dicky Morton, guided the smooth Arkansas offense to one first quarter score and two more in the second period. By Joseph P. Manguno NEW ORLEANS (UPI)- With their heads still in the clouds from last week's 24-20 last-second upset of the Los Angeles Rams, the New Orleans Saints take on the potent San Francisco 49ers Sunday. And while 49er Coach Dick Nolan admits Saints rookie quarterback Archie Manning may present a problem, he thinks he has the solution in the defensive and combination of Tommy Hart and Cedrick Hard-man. Manning, who took the Saints 70 yards in eight plays and then scored the winning touchdown with no time remaining on the clock last Sunday, is a drop-back quarterback who often moves out of the pocket to run. Job on Hands Hardman, a two-year man and Hart, a four-year veteran, will have the job of containing Manning a job Nolan says should be within the capability of what he calls "the fastest defensive end combination in the league." But the 49ers, bouncing back from an unexpected 20-17 defeat by the Atlanta Falcons last week, will have more than Manning to contend with.

There is surprise rookie running back Bob Gresham, who came off the taxi squad last Saturday and carried the ball for a touchdown and 91 yards against the Rams Sunday. Gresham suffered an injured ankle in that game, but Saint Coach J. D. Roberts said Friday he expects him to be ready for the 49ers. Willard Is Threat While San Francisco is trying to stop Gresham, the Saints will be having a rough time containing 49er running back Ken who gained 79 yards in 17 carries against the Falcons.

Ferguson, who had not missed a pass until late in the second quarter, boosted the Hogs to a 20-0 lead on a nine-yard touchdown strike to Mark Hollingsworth 5:37 deep in the second period.

Then, on what seemed like a meaningless extra point, kicker Bill McClard had to field' a high snap from center and his wobbly desperation pass was off the mark. Then Starks, a skinny junior from Palo Alto, came out throwing after intermission and finished with 24 of 43 for 257 yards and all three touchdowns. Ferguson, one of the nation's leading passers going into the game, hit 13 of 24 for 125 yards, but nine of those were in the first half. He suffered two interceptions. A.M.

State Wins, 31-14 EAST LANSING, Mich. (UPI) Third-string quarterback Frank Kolch threw for two touchdowns and safety Brad Van Pelt scored two more on pass interceptions Saturday as Michigan State scored a 31-14 win over Oregon State. Kolch, a surprise choice for the starting role, completed 10 of 17 passes for 144 yards and the two touchdowns. His scoring passes went for 25 yards to split end Mike Hurd in the second quarter and 15 yards to tight end Billy Joe Dupree in the fourth quarter. Head Coach Duffy Daugherty called on Kolch to start after the Spartan offense had scored a total of only 10 points in the first two games.

The win was the 100th the Spartans have scored with Daugherty as head coach. He now has a career mark of 100 wins, 60 losses and four ties since he took over at MSU in 1954. BC Rolls Past Navy BOSTON (UPI) Ed Ride-out's 59 yard touchdown run on a punt return in the opening minute of play Saturday launched Boston College on a 49-6 drubbing of overmatched Navy. Rideout's early romp came after a fake handoff and he later scored on a four-yard run as BC won for the second time in three starts while Navy was being blasted for the second time in as many weeks. Flanker Mel Briggs also scored twice for the Eagles on runs of four and three yards while substitute quarterback Denis Marangi pitched a pair of touchdown passes before 22,700 at Alumni Field.

Starks then launched an 82-yard time consuming drive with 8:20 left in the game.

He hit Frey for 22 and 29-yard passes and then found Pearson on the Arkansas 45 for 23 more yards. (UPI)-Northwestern, a two-time victim of the nation's top rated football teams, Saturday had to resort to just two field, and a touchdown to beat unranked Syracuse 12-6.

The Big Ten's Wildcats, among the preseason selections for the conference title, thoroughly out-classed Syracuse in the first half. They scored the first three times they had the ball and held the Orangemen to only eight yards rushing and 48 yards in the air. But Syracuse turned tough close to its goal line. The Wildcats drove easily through the Syracuse line until they reached the 10 yard line, where the otherwise loose Syracuse defense tightened and Bill Qlanisek was sent back for field goal tries. He booted them for 28 and 23 yards, altough he missed two later tries, both from the 20 yard line.

The Wildcats, losers to Michigan and Notre Dame in their earlier starts, scored heir sole touchdown in the second period on a one-yard plunge by Randy Anderson. Again the Wildcats moved quickly to scoring range but needed three plays to cash in after they passed the five yard line. Kansas St. Tops BYU By Patrick O'Connor MANHATTAN, Kan. (UPI) -Bill Butler hammered out 142 yards in 41 carries, including touchdown runs of five and three yards, to lead a gambling but error prone Kansas State to a 23-7 victory over out-manned Brigham Young Saturday.

Six times Kansas State sent Butler into the line on fourth and short yardage situations, and each time the 6-foot, 225-pound senior halfback got the first down. Darden sprint came after a scoreless third quarter. The Wolverines quick lead came as they took advantage of several Bruin mistakes. Running backs Fritz Seyferth and Ed Shuttlesworth scored touchdowns on one-yard plunges in a three-minute span and two minutes after Shut-tlesworth's score, Dana Coin booted a 31-yard field goal. Seyferth's TD came five plays after Darden returned a punt 22 yards to the UCLA 42. The Bruins were pressured to punt when Ron Carver ran on a fair catch UCLA was penalized to its four-yard line.

Moments later sophomore tackle Dave Gallagher intercepted a Mike Flores pass and returned it three yards to the UCLA 21. Four plays later Shuttlesworth bowled over for his score. Split end Bo Rather scored a second-quarter Michigan touchdown on a 32-yard pass from one to give Alabama a 10-0 lead. Alabama intercepted a John Reaves pass and marched 47 yards to make it 17-0 with the 196-pound Birmingham, dynamo scoring from the one. Reaves was intercepted again to ignite Bama's next scoring thrust, a 24-yarder climaxed by Musso's 2-yard dive.
