Circuit Court. Intbrssthio Case. The Cironit Court from Saturday up to yesterday was engaged in tho trial of tho case of JL W. Peeehin ys. Dr.

II. Ofin-being a snit for malpractioe, under the following circumstances: August 13, 1807, Mr. Feechin undertook to straighten a wagon hammer with an old axe, and in tho process a email spicula or scale described as about a 12th of an inch in length and the 24th to the SOth part of an inch wide at its base, tapering to a point, flew into hi eye, passing through the cornea and lodging in the iris and capsule of the crystalline lens. The man suffering severe pain, ssnt for Dr. Olin, who got to him about ii o'olock in the evening, some 8 hours after the acident He attempted at on( with proper instruments, and, us was testified by adepts, in a proper professional manner, to extract the foreign substance.

Two sttempt were made, in each of which tLo forceps lott its hold. The eye now bleeding profusely, no further attempt at extraction was mado. The usual emollients were applied, and the man relieved of pain. "When the eyo again cleared up, it was found that the scale had disappeared. The eye in due time got well, but with the almost total loss of hight.

The tctiuiony, beyond the simple facts above 6tated, of course consisted of the opinions of professional men and experts being, as is usual in such caM, indefinitely voluminous. The general drift, however, was so largely in favor of Dr. Olin that the jury, after the caie had bn submitted to them, kcuitted him of the charge of malpractice in 20 minutes. Rice Armstrong for the prosecution Gray, Avery and Shepperd for tho defence The Court adjourned yesterday noon over'to next Monday. A choice lot of Groceries, Turkeys, Chickens, Lard, I)uttr and Kggs, at Baldwin's.

Wkathke Itkm. The damp, gloomy, chilly, suicide inviting weather that characterized the first 20 days of November, hs apparently given way to a second edition of Indian summer. At least Thanksgiving day opened mild and lovely to a degree, and yesterday was no less so. The old river men and other weather profits, we observe, are predicting a mild winter. The river men ssy a November rise in the river always forecasts an open river during the winter.

The wood choppers say an unusually light orop of wild fruit, nuts and mast, such as characterized tho past season, also indicates a mild winter while the usal farmer's sign of a light husk on the corn points in the same direction. -An open winter, liewcvsr, nsnally means an unhealthy winter, and involves innumerable sudden and (to health) dangereus changes of the weather, admonishing; to unusual care in regard to clothing. Extra size Flannel Miirts at Fiske, Strickland Jfc Wing's at $1.25. New Ciiiisnr Fiimdihg. We notice tho pleasant weather has been seized to hnrry up the brick work for a neat little brick church edifice on Clinton street, on the rear end of the let occupied by the dw lling of Mr.

Archibald Armour. The building is intended for tho use of tho Fresbytorian denomination, who have or ganized a church in this city within the last few months. It will be 22 by about 50 feet in size, and afford sittings for about 150. If tho present weather continues a few days longer, the building will doubtless be ready for occupancy by New Year. Best Spring Wheat Flour, $3 per barrel, at Zaglo Mills.

A Joke. A man last week was inquiring about a Mr. Bro's. who was selling so many groceries. Upon being told there was no such man in town, triumphantly pointed to tho sign of Rials saying there, "do you too it." Ho was informed that it was Riale an enterprising young firm who have bnilt up one of tho finest trades in the city, and are now doing aueh an amount of business as to surprise the oldest heads.

Their motto is "A nimble sixpence bettor than a slow shilling." Fair dealing and a readiness to accommodate customers, have given them unprecedented success, and they aro now selling Teas, Sugars, Coffee, at prices which will always give them trade. Tea is their groat stand point," whieh they are selling at any price fram $1.00 to $2.00. Try them and you will be satisfied what we are saying is true. "Diamonds is trumps" among oysters, for you will find no oysters equal to the "Diamond oysters" at Lok Pibrouk's. Wo mean what we say, when we assert that every tints you buy Clothing, Hats and Capo, Bhirti and Drawers, Gloves and Mittens, or Furnishing Goods, without looking at Fiske, Strickland Wing's stock, you lose money by it Look and boo.

Mark Monopoly John Stout, not content with boating tho city in tho dry goods trade, has gobbled up the Clothing store of Ed Armstrong, and ia Belling off the stook at auotiou and at auotion prices. It is ono of tho best and heaviest clothing stocks in the oity, and will bo rush' ed off ia John's stylo at about half prioo. Salt by tho barrel at Bald win's. Important Tordlct. Tho case of Dr. Olw v. Harry Pkechin, has monopolized tho Circuit Court for several days past his Honor, Judge Leland, presiding in Lis usual able, dignified and satisfactory manner.

Among tho doctors and lawyers there has been an unusual amount of professional and legal talent deroloped and exorcised. The case resulted in Dr. Olin's favor. The case of Bowman thb People, which is a trial commenced thirteen years ago, has been decided without difficulty or delay, the evidence being so abundant and of such an invulnerable character that thore i no judge, jury, lawyer, doctor or any other person of intelligence and cultivation that can doubt that the general judgment of tho people in this case is proper and legal in deciding that Bowman makes the best pictures, and justly deserves the patronage of the People. P.

S. The above case is not appealable. him right. Good Joke on Hughet. The other day a fine, istaid, intelligent, well-to-do looking farmer entered the store of REDDICK GiLLE.v, and of course fell immediately into the ever attentive hands of Hughey.

"Is this Mr. Reddick's store he asked, and receiving an affirmative answer, "Is Mr. Red-dick in he further propounded. No he was not in" But I am his partner," said Hughey, and will be happy to wait on you." "I under tand he has some fine merinos fsr sale I wisii to buy some," said the gentleman. Now if iere is anything RedJick Gillen hare got, it is merinoes.

Hughey was all activity. Roll upon roll was tumbled down merinos of sll the hues of the rainbow from fine as silk down to 35 cts. a yard. "Make beautiful dresses," pursued Hughey, professionally "These take but seven yards to a pattern indeed six yards are sufficient for most ladies. How many will you have The gentleman thought if they suited him, he might take a dozen.

Hughey wont on showing off and praising up his merinos, but was astonished to see the gentleman so apparently listless. "Perhaps you would like to see some alpacas suggested Hughey. Yes, he would very much, indeed. Hughey pulled down bundle after bundle-alpacas so fine you would have thought them lk, and so on down to 25 cts. a yard in short, the finest lot ever seen in Ottawa.

"How many yards of conundrum Hughey propounded next. "Oh." said the gentleman, "your goods are very fine, I dare say, but they are not what I want, you know." 'Not want any goods!" shouted Hughey. What the dt you want I understood," said the gentleman innooent-y, that Mr. Reddick had a fine flock of choice acrinos, and you say he has also alpacas. I am about to embark in the sheep business, and thought he might sell me some." You want SHEEP screamed Hughoy, and then he either slipped through the floor or under the counter, for he was cot seen for two hours afterwards.

GoiKQ AWAY. The numerous customers of tho large Boot ahd Shoe establishment of Child ia this oity, as well as hundreds of other friends and associates, will learn with regret that their old favorite, Mr. Dan Bhioos, for the last four years a clerk in tho boot and shoe tablishment named, is about to leave Ottawa and abide elsewhere. In short, having succeed od so well ia selling for others, he is warranted in believing ihat ho can do equally as well to coun terhop for himself. He has, therefore, formed a partnership in tho boot and shoo business with James Waterman (another Ottawa boy) at Lyons, Iowa.
