'Search for Tomorrow' to switch networks By LYNDA HIRSCH Field Syndicate As we predicted, Search for Tomorrow, the longest-running daytime drama in network TV, is switching networks from CBS to NBC, The switch takes place March 29. Not a beat will be missed between its last airing on CBS and its renewal on NBC. The show will still be set in Henderson and will retain executive producer Fred Bartholomew and producer Robert Getz. The story will still circle around Mary StuarL Rod Arrants and Sherry Mathis, who portray Joanne, Travis and Liza. We understand that Proctor & Gamble, which produces the show, has never been happy with the 2:30 (ET) time slot thrust upon them a while back. P&G always felt the show was at its best at 12:30, and that's exactly where NBC intends to put it. (By the way, ABC was bargaining for the show last year but was unable to get it. Again, one of the problems was P&G's insistence that it had to be in the 12:30 time slot.) None of the shows currently airing on NBC will be dropped not at this writing, at least. The Doctors will move back to noon. This is why NBC was loath to allow any of their owned-and-operated stations to produce noon news programs; they had their eye on moving one of their soaps back to the noon spot for .a: long tnti; Day$ of Our Lives? AibierWvrii aaffia$ will stay!W they af'e at this" point.' Rumor; , has It that one of the now-running game shows will be saying so long.' Brandon Tartikoff, president of NBC entertainment, says he's delighted that Search for Tomorrow is coming over and has said, "I can't understand CBS getting rid of Search for Tomorrow, which is the ninth-highest-rated soap on daytime. That's higher than anything we have running at the moment." SoapQ&A Q: I see that Kin Shriner has returned to General Hospital. Is it permanent, or is it just a brief appearance? T.L.L., Garden Grove, Calif. A: Kin has signed for at least a year. You might have noticed that this time out his character, Scotty, is coming on much stronger than the Scotty of old. We feel he'll settle back in just fine, and also feel with the upcoming storyline involving Laura, Kin will get a chance to really show his acting talent It was his choice to leave Texas; he was not that happy with the character of Jeb. Kin took a lot of time deciding about returning to General Hospital, but we must tell you that be was desperately wanted by the powers-that-be on the show and at ABC.
