This is the most nensiMe movement that ha recently been made by the Jiu kson presH. We think, however, that the News eight likewise to have gone hl What a bully name the paper would then lmvo had "The Duily and Weekly Mississippi Clu- rion and Standurd and News and Mississip- jiiuu." l'ity to spoil a giKl tiling Ilisiw CiiicciT Cociit. The court h.is been most industrioasly engaged since our litst in lisputchiag the public: business.

A great number of cases have been disposed of many old, knotty affairs have been wound up and the docket thns surprisingly reduced. Friduv aud Saturday of hit week were con sumed in tCe trial of the State case, the State of Mihsissippi against Dr. li. 11 Fullcrtou, charged with the murder of Pr. J.

M. Rey nolds. Tho affray which terminated in that unfortunate event, it will be remembered, oc curred in this town in the full of 1859. The State was ably represented in tho trial by A. Y.

Harrier, District Attorney, while the defence was conducted with equal ability by C. E. H.Kiker and J. W. llobb, Esq.

After a consultation of a few minutes the jury returned a verdict of acquittal, and Dr. Fnllerton was discharged. The case styled the State of Mississippi vs. Geo. W.

Bankstou, charged with the killing Dr. F. 0. Chase, was taken np on Tuesday. Tho examination of witnesses for the Stute was continued until Wednesday morning, when the District Attorney dismissed the case, for want of evidence, and tho accused was discharged.

The fight in which Chase was killed occurred in this town in A mail pained Hill, it will be remembered, Was also killed in the Affray, (Ht always affords lis pleasure to call the public attention to a good thing, especially if it is advertised in our columns. And Labor Saving machines, particularly, captivate our fancy, for, by sad experience, we fully realize the inconveniences and hardships which that person encounters whose fate it is to labor. In the past, the south has devoted little attention, comparatively speaking, to labor saving machines, partly from the rea son that there was no scarcity of labor, or, rather, that a sufficiency of labor could at all times be commanded, and partly because of tho wretched humbugs, labor saving machine, with which this country was flooded in it prosperous days. Tilings have chang ed vastly within the last half dozen years, and it becomes us to change with thciu, and adapt ourselves to the changed circumstances. Wo must now bike time to discriminate be-tween practical aud useful machines and those which are hnmbngs.

In self-defence -on the score of economy we must now bring into general use every practical means for saving labor, lot the means come from where it may. Two machines are advertised in this paper, to which would invite the particular at tention of every citi.cn of this county. 1. The Hand Looui exhibited by Coon A of Jackson and 2. The Wilcox A Gibbs Sewing Machine, offered by M.

W. Leet, of St Louis. The Loom is certainly the very article requir ed on CTery plantation where the nnuiber of persons to be clothed exceeds a dozen, and especially while the present heavy tax on cotton is retained, and the existing enormous rate of transportation are exacted. The Wilcox A Gibti Sewing Machine is not a whit behind the Loom in importance and value. A good sewing machine one not subject to get out of order contiuually we have long thought a necessary fixture in every family.

But, in our judgment, the Wilcox A Gibbs is tht machine for this country. Indeed, it sur passes, in almost every particular, every other sewing machine that we have seen in the country and its chief merits, to our view, consist in its simplicity, and the fact that, with any thing like proper usage, it will not get out of order. The Loom can be seen in operation at the Mayor- office, in this town. and the Sewing Macliiue may be examined and tested at the family residence two miles from Raymond, on the road to Bolton's. This notice is sot "a puff." It has not been solicited, nor hi it paid for.

We give it voluntarily, and without fee or reward, solely for the benefit of our readers. The machines are not "Yankee humbugs," or useless inven tions, but are really what they purport to be, and deserve the attention and scrutiny of ev ery citizen who desire to economize time, and furnish his family with clothing at as little an outlay as possible. "Great destruction of property has oc curred southern Louisiana. The Great Morganza and Grand Leveea have given way and the hole country, at the latest accounts, was under water. Thirteen large and fertile parishes are embraced in the flooded region, mill the nf nrmtrfv Biiu, will be incalculable i valuable to notice all the whim cf the Ga-i lette, and if the thk Sbriou and desire to bury the past, the best ay is to Mop talk ing aooaH.

-iftfj uw jKtifjTjniii. It is Tery ridriit from th above, to onr mind, tlut onr remark from time to time have prodaoeJ a good effect the effect de- signednpon the mind and gentlemanly and kindly feeling of our neighbor ot the Jackson New. At the moment that be petulcntly, aa no doubt undesignedly, "anubbed" na, last CdL we determined to eiz and hold him until he got enough of the Hinds County Ga- jette, and until he should manifest a disposition to treat us at least with decent respect. He Certainly has wnujh now, or we cannot understand the force of langnage and are no judge of editorial human nature. We are now ierftly satisfied.

We let our neighbor up brush the dust from hi handsomely rounded backadjust hi elegant tile shake hands with him and step inU the nearest grocery (to treat to y'wjrr pop only,) and pledge a friendship and admiration which shall endure so long as it is jierfectly agree a- I bW to Jiira. We now consider the hatchet buried, and the pipe of peace smoked, be tween the Jackson News and the Hinds Coun ty Gazette. rThe degree, of infatuation which rules in the present Congress of the United States, is very clearly demonstrated by the action of the House of Representatives on the 1st inst It passed a bill, by on overwhelming majority, appropriating the enormous sum of Ten Mil lions of Dollars for the clothing, feeding and education of negroes! Was uch Legisla tion ever before perpetrated in tho world' history With a rate of taxation unprece dented in the annals of Governments with it obligations thirty per cent below the con stitutional currency and with a public debt truly frightful in its proportions, and unpro vided for the munificent sum of ten millions of dollars is pitched at the negroes of the south, to encourage them still more in their indolence, lozyuess, and improvidence! What are we coming to, and what need we expect, under the influences of such Legislation Why, white men will not lubor if they cou live without it, and that the negro will not the world can testify. Let I ncle Sum continue his munificent donations and we are lost irrctrievcubly lost and the once beautiful and jiopulons South will become a howling wilderness, with here and there a hut containing a few miserable but atrocious and ferocious black savages irk New York dispatch of May 11th, states that the Herald's Valparaiso correspondent says that among the effects of a French stranger dying suddenly at Lima, were documents which proved him to have been a French agent coming with proposals to be Dictator of Pern offering to make himself King or Emperor, promising men and money from France under the Mexican or, in other words, through Maximilian. As France has given Mexico the best gov ernment that she has hal for more than a quarter of a century and as tho Peruvians need reconstructing very badly we don't see why another Maximillian may not be allowed to go in and set up Bhop in Pern.

"The best Government the world ever saw will not, we hope, put in an objection. She should be satisfied with the crown of glory she has won at home within the past five years, and permit reconstruction to go on elsewhere as well as here. Having devastated and desolated the richer half of its own country and, withal, having made ladies and gentlemen of many millions of former laborers, and exhibited the willingness and ability to keep those former laborers in easy circumstances out of its public treasure mid, to crown all, having tho Star Spangled ban ner and Yankee Doodle still on hand in their purity think the best Government the world ever saw may well rest on its lau rels for a century, and allow the remainder of the world to take care of itself, and recon struct as often as it thinks proper. -O'The New Orleans papers announce the receipt of the news of the death of Ex-Gov. II.

W. Allen, of that state, in Mexico, from the effects of wouuds received during the war. Gov. Allen was editor of the Mexican Times newspaper. fTJudge Abell, of tlie First District Court at New Orleans, has decided the Civil Rights Act of the present congress unconstitutional, uud consequently not binding on the courts, and that he will not regard it He argues, in his decision, that tlie present congress is, also, nnconstitutioiud, not being constituted as expressly required by the constitution.

irA bill has passed the House of Representatives authorizing the appropriation of $6,000,000, in per cent bonds, to aid in the construction of a ship canal around the Falls of Niagara. Dr. Stone, of New Orleans, says the Asiatic Cholera never visits warm latitudes in the summer season. Damp, cold weather in the falL" says the produces it, but the cholera dies out in summer!" Ii this theory be correct, and no better authority, perhaps, can be quoted, we need not anticipate the appearance of the pestilence among us until after the summer months. pSX dispatch from Norfolk, dated the 11th inst, states that the Grand Jury of the United States District Court, in session in that city, brought in a true bill against Jefferson Davis for treason, and that the court had ailjourued over until the first Tuesday in June.
