Patience Worth lives? LOTH OM OH I HERE COMES ST LOUIS (UPI)-On a hot, stuffy St. Louis summer night (10 yours ago Uircc women passed thu time with un Ouljii board. They iiad not hud much luck In previous attempts to contact spirits but thought they would give It another try. After several false starts the hoard spelled out a message: "Many moons ago I lived. Again I come--Patience Worth my name." Over the next quarter of a century "Patience Worth "and her earthly contact, Pearl Curran, wife of a successful St.

Louis businessman, presented the world with literary works of much eloquence and beauty. The a staggering--four million words, seven books, thousands of poems, epigrams and stories and of i conversation--all, according to Mrs. Curran, spelled out one letter at a time with amazing speed. The story of Patience Worth is detailed in a book, "Singer in the a a Story of Patience Worth." Its author, Irving Lltvag, has Mr explanation for the appearance of the spirit from another time and another place, and thinks It better a a i unsolved. "I'm a rational human being," Lltvag said in an interview, "and I try to get as much information as possible to solve the mystery of life.

Hut working a book like this for about two years, you become emotionally involved in a way, caught up in the aesthetic beauty of the story as an unsolved mystery." The source of the works, assertedly dictated by Patience Worth through Mrs. Curran, remains a puzzle for many reasons. The langguage was from many different periods, Litvag notes, from the time of Christ up to 20th century America, and Mrs. Curran disclaimed any personal literary talent. "Patience" was said to discourage speculation and i into her background, replying that i mattered except what she had to say.

One example of her poetry expresses this thought: "I am molten silver running. Let man catch me within his cup. Let him proceed upon his labour, smithing upon me Let him with cunning smite my substance. Let him at his dream, lending my stuff unto its creation. It shall be no less me!" a i a a "Patience Worth" was a fraud, that Mrs, Curran actually made up the works herself.

While there is no evidence she made any profit from "Patience Worth," Cumin's description of how she received her works did little to end the suspicions. "I am like a child with a magic picture book," Mrs. Curran once explained. "Once I look upon it, all I have to do is watch its pages open before me, and revel in their beauty and variety and novelty." Some skeptics suggested that Mrs. Curran had literary talent in her subconscious that created the literature attributed to Patience Worth.

Since Mrs. Curran's death in 191)7 the voice of "Patience Worth" has been stilled, so the mystery is unlikely ever to be solved.
