FINE ADVERTISEMENT FOR CITY Maryland's "Dandy" Soldiers Slake Good Impression Wherever They Go Money Slowly Coming In. Little doubt Is felt that when the time comes the Fifth Regiment will be in line for the celebration to be helri Atlanta October 8 to 10, in commemoration- Ul lue i'eacerui invasion of the North in 1S79" by the Old Guard of the Gate City. The crowning feature of the celebration will be the unveiling of the Peace Monument, at which President Taft will make the principal address. There is a strong feeling in Baltimore that the Fifth must be there on that occasion. The Fifth must accept the Invitation soon, if at all, so the Old Guard of the Gate City may have ample time to make arrangements for entertainment.

The invitation was made In return for the courtesy extended by the Fifth when the Old Guard "invaded Baltimore." Whether Maryland shall be represented depends on the public-spirited citizens of Baltimore. The sum necessary to send the regiment to Atlanta is $20,000. This amount must be raised by subscription. Rowlan(i Thomas, president of the National Bank of Baltimore, is head of the subscription He reports that funds are coming in slowly. Davis Says Commissioners Are "Doing IVotulng." County Commissioners are promising everything and doing nothing," said Rev. Dr. W. W. Davis, general secretary of the Lord's Day Alliance, yesterday.

Dr. Davis said he had interviewed a number of the prominent Democratic politicians of the county and had received promises of support from many of them. "We're going to push right along with such meetings as we have been holding," he said, "and the fact that we have had calls for meetings from all parts of the county proves that we have the people with us. It's a hard fight and, because the Commissioners seem unwilling to take any steps to iniprove conditions in spite of their promises, we shall have to gain the confidence and assistance of the public and the aid of the mote worthy politicians. "There is a strong movement on foot to take away political power from the men who run the resorts, to keep them from serving as Judges of elections and in other political positions, and it looks like we shall he able to accomplish this, at any rate.

"I saw a number of the biggest politicians this morning and found that several of them are in favor of decent Sunday observance and enforcement of the laws." MR.
