Warren Guinea Station with, lie be 1 fcnppiies. Wr Correspondence of Associated Press. W'asbisgtou, May 19 Midnight. -A dispatch from headquarters of the Army of the Potomac, dated yesterday at 6 o'clocn P.

says an attack on the enemy's right was to have been made at an early hour this morning, but on examining the gronnd in that vicinity it was found to be unfavorable lor the handling of an army; so the plan was changed, and at 5 o'clock this (Wednesday) morn-iEg Gen. Hancocs, supported by the Sixth Corps on his right and General Burnside on the left, advanced against the enemy's works. The. rifle pits in front were those which had been abandoned by us, but were filled with rebel sbarpshcoteis who were soon dislodged and driven through a second line and behind a thick impenetrable abattis, which was cf a most form id able character. On examination it was deemed best not to attempi charging through this barrier, and the troops fell back in good order, although exposed to a galliDg fire of shells and cannis'er from both flanks.

Onr loss in this movement was considerable, being about 600, in killed and wounded, among whom were Colonel Murphy, commanding the Corcoran Legion, who was wounded; Lieut. Col. D. E. Lacy, 104th New York Volunteers, wounded in the bowels; Major Burns, 150 New York, wounded in the head; Lieut.

Col. Pennsylvania Volunteers.wound-ed in the shoulder; Major Baker, command-ir. the 39th New York, was wounded, and Mfjor Carples, of the 52J New York, also. Burnside's corps were only partly engaged, and lost of the above number about one-fourth. The Corcoran Legion acted like veterans, and kept their ground for one hour tinder a very hot fire.

An attack was made on our left in the afternoon where Warren was posted, but our batteries soon drove the enemy back and silenced their guns. All was quiet at six o'clock. Later, May 19th, 6 A. M. I have just received intelligence that Guinea Station, on the Fredericksburg and Richmond Railroad, was entered last night by our scouts.

The War Netts, A dispatch, received through the Associated Press, from the Army of the Fotomac, indicates the renewal of active hostilities.

Firing: is said to have open-. fd briskly at 4.40 on Wednesday morning. steamers from Belle ITain arrived at Washington yesterday, one of them bringing a report that" at four o'clock on Wednesday morning a charge upon the Confederate "works was ordered, when it was discovered the enemy had position on their front. Cavalry, it is ated, was then sent in pursuit. Another report is to the effect that at noon on ATednesday the right wing and the centre of the Union army were engaged.

Should later news be received le-tfore going to press it will be found under the Postscript head. The telegraph also furnishes further particulars of the attack made by the Confederates on Gen. Butler's forces on Monday, 3iear Fort 1-arlirsg. The fighting appears to liave been very severe, and the losses of each are represented to have been heavy. In consequence of the Confederates having been strongly reinforced, the "Union forces, it is stated, fell back to their new line of entrenchments.

The struggle has tbis moment begun with skirmishing on our extreme right. We fully expect a great, a bloody, and, 'we trust, a decisive battle to-iay. From GeD. Butler's Command. urticulnrs of tlie Rebel Attack on Our Forces near Fort Darling on Monday.

Biiesuda KrjBRED. May 17. As reported yesterday the enemy came out of their esrth- Vcrks around Fort Darling at day break yesterday mcraiEg and chargtd upon our right -Wing, but were driven back with heavy loss. Immediately tluy made another charge, but with similar retults. At the third charge, which followed in quick succession and with greater numbers, cur right wing fell back, and we lost a considerable number of prisoners, also killed and wounded, but your correspondent ha3 no estimate as to the numr.er.

At the time cf the attack there was a dense eg, and the enemy were not discernible till close upon us. We, however, captured about S3C prisoners, and the enemy's loss in killed and wcunded was at least three to eur one. Prisoners captured say they were heavily reinforced during the night, but do not know where from. Gen. Heckman's brigade suffered severely, and the general is reported misricg.

Major Jenkins, of the40thMassachu3etts, is miss'ngand probably captured. Capt. Rae, of the 24th Massachusetts, and Lt. Col. t'ham-I'prs, of the 23d Massachusetts, were killed; Col.

Orle of the 39th Illinois, was wounded; Colonel Lee, of the 21st Massachusetts, is missing; Captain Hake, of the 3d New York, -wouEded, and Lieut. Bartholomew, of the 27th Massachusetts, is missing. We captured Geo. W. Jones, a son of Senator Jones, ot Iowa, the adjutant of the rebel general, Bushroa John-jsori.

We also captured three other captains. General Giimore's position on the left was attacked at the same time; also our centre, tut at four P. M. both held their position. General Gilmore captured 50 prisoners in addition to those ment.oned.

Up to 4 o'clock P. General Butler's headquarters, which were close in front, had not teen changed; but owing to the superior uumbers of the enemy now confronting us, we rr ay have to fall back to our entrenchments. All, however, is in good order with -cur army at present. The rebel ram has not been seen since ten o'clock yesterday. The centre and left wing of our aTmy hold their position, and General Gilmore, on the -extreme left, is within six and a half miles of Richmond.

The enemy lost in killed and wounded, in the three charges they made, from one thou-tard to fifteen hundred men, whilst our loss In killed and wounded was very slight. Later. General Butler having learned that the enemy was heavily reinforced, and by an arrival of a courier having ascertained that General. Kautz's cavalry had succeeded in their mission in destroying the railroad bridge over the Appomattox river, and several miles of the lanville railroad, also the dams, locks and embankments of the canal leading into Richmond, decided to fallback from before Fort Darling, and bv Monday evening our army had safely arrived behind cur new line of entrenchments, in perfect order, wi'h the exception of Gen. Heckman's brigade, which was badly disorganized, and ihff Get eral captured.

This brigade formed the extreme right snd here the enemy made their attack with great desperation, driving back the brigade nearly two miles with overwhelming numbers, and capturing a large number of prisor.ers. Many were also killed and Tioorded. Three of our siege gan.3 are reported to liave fallen into the enemy's hands, the aorses being killed. The gun? are said to Jhave been spiked. At present it is impossible to give a cor-xect estimate of our loss.

Stragglers are constantly coming in. We have no doubt we lost more prisoners than the enemy, but their loss in killed and wounded is twice as great a ours, as our men were protected by en trenchments. Several of Longstreet'smen were captured, 'Who stated that his whole force were co-operating with Beauregard rather an improbable story. One great object of Gen- Bntler's advance agairBtFort Darling has certainly been accomplished, that of attracting the attention of the rebel force in this vicinity away from -the operations of our cavalry under General Jiautz, whilst they have been destroying the enemy's communications south of Richmond. The Capture of Yazoo City.

Caiko, 111., May 18. The steamer St. Pat-Tick, lrom Memphis, passed up lor Louisville to-day- Her advices are to yesterday morning, "in the Jate capture cf Yazoo City by Gen. McArthur, the rebels are said to have been badly worsted and lost largely in killed wounded. Between twenty and thirtyrfhousand bales of cotton are reported to be in the vicinity of Yazoo City, six or seven thousand baits of which are owned by Union citieens, who bought it before Yazoo City was evacuated by our forces last spring.

The future move--jnents of Gen. McArthur are unknown. Gen. Banks has been ordered to report at JXev Orleans. An fficer fiom Duvall's Bluff reports that the rebels have erected a battery on White river, at South Bend, near the cut-off.
