This program is initiated on a state-wide basis by the Farmers Home Administration.

Each of the fifty county offices select a winner, this winner is then nominated for district awards and then the seven districts of the state choose a winner and from these seven the state Farm Family of the Year will be selected this spring. Boss is interested in farming practices and follows the latest recommendation in the management of his livestock and land. On the 940 acres that the Bosses operate, they follow a very sound cropping program. The Bosses farrow 24 sows twice a year and feed out the hogs to market weight. They have a 24 head stock cow herd and raise the calves to yearling weight.

The Bosses own 120 acres and rent the remaining 820 acres. Everett and his wife Jane have three children and have helped to raise five foster children. The Bosses are active in affairs and are members of St John's Lutheran Church of Casey.
