A 98-yard kickoff return by Steve Atkins and Steve Trimble's fumble recovery in the North Carolina State end zone on the ensuing kickoff sparked 12th-ranked Maryland to a 31-7 victory over the 20th-ranked Wolfpack Saturday. 1 The two lightening touchdowns came after quarterback Scott Smith scored for State on a two-yard run early in the third quarter, and broke open the battle between the Atlantic Coast Conference unbeatens.
