The 20 year-old Flynn, the fourth Sport pilcher to last a full nine innings and the second in succession, scattered four singles across the board but they didn't scar him at all. What hurt Flynn occasionally were six bases on balls he has issued 24 in 23 innings and he blunted most of those walks with seven strikeouts. While Flynn was tottering along the Sports fell back on a previously unused weapon in their arsenal to ran his lifetime mark against the Yankees to 24-8 with a neat seven-hitter. Rookie Stvive Boros and Norm Cash provided the punch for Lary's third straight triumph, Boros hitting safely three times and driving in two runs, and Cash pulling the Tigers in front with a fourth inning home run. The Yankees pounced on Lary for two runs in the first Inning with the help of an error by Tiger left fielder Rocky Colavito.

Starting pitcher Bob Turley singled in the second, but Lary did not allow another hit until the seventh when Bill Skowron led off with his second home run of the season and narrowed Detroit's margin to one run. Nahville 6 Tuesday'a Gamea Macon at SHKEVEPORT 12) Na.shville at Atlanta Little Rock at Birmingham Mobile at Chattanooga his fellow Philadelphia in 2:28 of the second round in a first defense of his National Boxing Association version of the world light heavyweight title. Johnson, a 32-year-old stylist, had dropped the 21-year-old Clay flat on his back in his own corner when Referee Dave Beloff stopped the contest. He didn't even bother to pick up a count.

The referee stopped the fight under the Pennsylvania Boxing Commission rule that calls for the end of a fight after a third knockdown in the same round. Clay was down three times in the second after being saved by the bell at the end of the first. It was purely an academic question for Clay, fighting his 19th pro bout, was no match for the champion, who won his title by whipping Jesse Bowdry in Miami Beach, Peb. 7. New York, Massachusetts, Great Britain and the European boxing union recognize as champion Archie Moore, who was stripped of the 175-pound crown by the NBA.

Johnson, a 3 to 1 favorite, gave away a pound to Clay, who weighed 175 to the champ's 174. But that was all Johnson gave away. Early in first round, Johnson staggered Clay with a left hook and drove him off balance, wobbling across the ring. Just before the bell ended the first, Johnson landed a right that rolled Clay completely over. He got up, fell again, tumbling under the ropes as the bell sounded.

They didn't even have time to start a count that time before the cornermen raced into the ring to pull Clay to a safe harbor. There was a stain of blood on Johnson's nose early in the second but Clay was missing with wild right hands. Suddenly, Johnson drove home a sharp right to the chin. It had a delayed effect on Clay, who fell down, rolled over and finally made it to his feet in bad shape at nine. slrj wn0 quarterbacked the Tigers to a respect- Jay Hebert Edges Venturi in Classic HOUSTON, April 24 3 Jay Hebert sank an eight-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a sudden death playoff today to defeat Ken Venturi for the $7,000 top money in the $40,000 Houston golf classic, The scheduled 18 hole had applied the pressure by sinking aoie iyou season, nas ine goiaen loucn in AMERICAN LEAGIE Won Lost Pel.
