am a a Society John Kooikers to teach in Higashi Kurume, Japan Mr. and Mrs. John J. Koolker have signed contracts to teach at the Christian Academy in Japan during the 1972 73 academic year. John will be the senior math teacher and junior high basketball coach and Sherry will be teaching the fifth and sixth grades on a half-time basis.

The Christian Academy in Japan is located about 30 miles northwest of Tokyo in the quiet city of HigashiKurume. The purpose of the academy is to provide a Christian education in the English language for the children of the evangelical missionary community. The school includes grades one The six sponsoring mission organizations include The Evangelical Alliance Mission. The Oriental Missionary Society, the Christian Reformed Board of Foreign Missions, the Far Eastern Gospel Crusade, the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society and the Evangelical Covenant Church Board of Missions. John and Sherry have been living in Clay Center, Kansas, where Sherry has taught sixth grade for the past two years.

John has completed two years of graduate work at Kansas State University at Manhattan, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Kooiker, Boyden, Iowa, recently attended graduation ceremonies, and enjoyed a week's stay with their children in Clay Center. Sherry, Sheryl White prior to June 26, 1971, hails from Miltonvale, Kansas, and is the daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Emery R. Eklund, Jr. The couple will be leaving for Japan on August 29 from San Francisco. Amy and Daryl honored Miss Amy Landman of Hull and Mr.

Daryl Grooters of Boyden were honored Saturday night, June 3, at the L. V. Grooter's home. Hostesses were aunts of the prospective groom. These aunts through twelve, and the curriculum is quite similar to that of any American Christian School.

The student body is comprised of about 450 students, approximately 420 of which are children of missionaries. One third of the students come from the six missions which own and operate the school; the others represent nearly thirty additional missions. The nations represented in the student body include the United States, Canada, Australia, Holland, Ireland, New Zealand, China, Korea and Japan. Approximately 100 students are boarders, and the others commute daily, usually by train. Larry Bylsma receives Degree from Sioux Empire College Larry Bylsma of Hull received an Associate of Arts Degree from Sioux Empire College in Hawarden on Wednesday, June 7, 1972, during the college's fifth annual commencement exercise.

Sioux Empire College is a two year junior college. The commencement exercises were held in the Associated Church in Hawarden. Dr. Al Hudek, Dean of Sioux Empire College, presented the candidates for their degrees while Don Hummel, Board of Directors Secretary, presented the students with their degrees, Graduates from Power Lineman Course at NIVS Jeff Vande Griend, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Jarace Vande Griend, graduated from the Power Lineman course at Northwest Iowa Vocational School on May 31. He is now employed by D. E. R. E.

located at Estherville, Iowa and is living in Milford, lowa. Te Slaa Family Reunion June 21 The Te Slaa family reunion will be held on Wednesday, June 21, in the Hull Park. and Mrs. Harold Schaffer for their 50th anniversary, June 5 in the Hull Park. Those that came were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hibma, Mr.

and Mrs. Case Slothouber, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Donkersloot son, Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Merlin De Boer were unable to attend. Cleveringa Reunion to be June 21 The Cleveringa reunion will be held in the east shelter house at the Rock Valley Park in the evening at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21.

Don Oostenink are the parents of a baby boy, born on June 8 in the Sioux Center hospital. The little lad weighed 9 oz. at birth and has been named Brian Lee. He has a brother, Lance Alan, to welcome him. The mother is the former Joyce Eppinga.

The grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ben Eppinga of Rock Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Oostenink of Hull, Mr.

and Mrs. Bernie Mulder of Hawarden are the parents of a born June 9, the Sioux Center hospital. He weighed 8 2 oz. at birth and has been named Bryan Dale. The mother is the former Linda Ten Haken.

The little lad is welcomed by a sister, Teresa, and a brother, Terry, who are spending a few days with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Ten Haken. ROCK RAPIDS To Mr. and Mrs.
