6B Fort Myers News-Press, Wednesday, September 29, 1982 Childers ends campaign against Peterson Gannett News Service ', TALLAHASSEE W.D. Childers, ending a turbulent two-year term as Florida Senate President, said Tuesday that he will halt his campaign opposing the senator designated to succeed him, Curtis Peterson, D-Lakeland. Childers, D-Pensacola, told Gannett News Service he will vote for Peterson at the Senate's Nov. 16 re organization session. "I've been at the top. I've been at the bottom. I know the way back and forth," said Childers, whose tenure as president was marked by a bitter internal power struggle the past two years. Childers' announced support for Peterson came after Childers' candidate for president, Sen. Mattox Hair, D-Jacksonville, dropped out of the race Monday. 1 killed, 3 injured in Navy helicopter crash : KEY WEST (AP) A Navy pilot was killed and three crewmen injured Tuesday when the anti-submarine helicopter they were flying on a routine training mission crashed in shallow water near here. ; The cause of the accident had not yet been determined, Lt. Dave Barron, spokesman at the Key West Naval Air Station, said Tuesday evening. "They were going to convene an investigation, which is routine." The pilot of the SH-2f Seasprite helicopter was identified as Lt. Cmdr. James C. Radney, 31. The injured men were identified as the co-pilot, Lt. Cmdr. William T. Boone, 32, of Neptune Beach, and enlisted crewmen Andrew Bra-ithwaite, 22, of Thompson, Ga., and David B. Rogers, 20, of Cinnaminson, N.J. uiro The Board of Lee County Commissioners will hold a Special Meeting on Thursday, October 7, 1982, at 10:00 AM in the County Commissioners' Meeting Room, Lee County Courthouse, for a presentation and discussion of the 869 Corridor Study. If a person decides to appeal a decision made by the Board, with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, a record of the proceeding will be needed for such purpose.
