THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1956 ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH PAGE THIRTY Obituary E. B. Whitcomb Edwin B. Whitcomb, 75, an accountant, died at 3 p. m.

Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He had been A patient in the hospital since he collapsed, Nov. 13, while calling at the Telegraph editorial office. His condition had been serious since his collapse, and he had undergone surgery Tuesday afternoon.

"A resident of Alton for more than 35 years, Mr, Whitcomb in recent years had lived at the Keystone Hotel. Mr. Whitcomb was a 50-year member of the Msonic order, and received a 50-year pin on Oct. 10 at, a meeting of Piasa Lodge, which acted for the St. Paul, lodge in which Whitcomb held membership.

He also was a former seeretary of Alton Aerie of the ternal Order of Eagles, and for years had been active in that organization. Widely known as photohis grapher, Mr. in Whitcomb entered pictures many salons won numerous awards. He was active in photographic groups, and was past president of the Onized Camera Club, St. Louls Camera Club and Foto- clan, a St.

Louis In 1954, he was named an Associate of the Photographic Soclety of America, at its Chicago son in Alton area to receive the convention. He was the first honor, one of the highest an amateur photographer can gain. A member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Mr. Whitcomb had been active in the organization and was a member of its state board of managers. Mr.

Whitcomb, who was preceded in death by his wife, is survived by a sister, Mrs. C. F. Bohlig of Naples, and A brother, Dwight G. Whitcomb of Seattle, Wash.

Stephen Long CARROLLTON -Stephen Long 78, a former Carrollton and a retired farmer and native of Greene County, died at 9:30 m. today in a hospital at Jackanville.

He had been in ill health for several years. Born at Haypress, west of Carroliton, Dec. 29, 1877, he was son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Willis Long.

Prior to entering the hostpial he' had made his home with a son, John, at Lodge, 111. He was a member of Kane Baptist Church, Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Margaret Layton. to whom he was married in January of 1904; three sons, and Arthur of Lodge, and Fred Long of Carrollton; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Breitweiser, Godfrey and Mrs. Virgil Talley and Mrs.

Floyd Kimbro, Carrollton; 30 grandchildren, and 15 granchildren. The body is at Simpson Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements. Bradley Dale Cooper Funeral Services kakee, were conducted Tuesday at Marks Mortuary, Wood River. Graveside rites were in Woodland Hill Cemetery, Wood River. Bradley was born Nov.

14 at Kankakee, and died Nov. 24 at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago. Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Constance and Janet Sue; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Olin Cooper of East Alton and Mr.

Anna Warner, who sang. Casketbearers were Oren Berry, Arthur Malone, Herman Dentip, Truman, James Avery and Raymond Thompson. John W. Hoppe Dies at Age 62 John William Hoppe, 62, who had been a patient in Alton Memorial Hospital since Nov. 18, died at 11:35 a.m.

today at the hospital. Mr. Hoppe, who had never married, was born in Germany. Among survivors are a cousin, Arthur Goldmann of Richmond Heights, Mo. Crit O.

Shaw Rites Scheduled Saturday Funeral rites for Crit O. Shaw, who died Tuesday in St. Anthony's Hospital, will be conducted Friday in Mehl Funeral Home Carrollton. In addition to the survivors listed in the Telegraph Wednesday, a brother, Johnny Shaw of Chesterfield, also survives. William Griggs and infant daughter of 904 Prickett and Mrs. Viola Harris of 633 Mount Clair, Changes Sought In Zoning Bill At County Seat EDWARDSVILLE. Seven residents appeared at a public hearing conducted by the City Council Wednesday night on the proposed zoning ordinance. All of them asked that the proposed classification. on their lots be changed.

All requests were turned over to the Ordinance Committee who will study them and report their recommendations back to the council. Aldermen on the committee are Paul Ohm, Louis Boullion, Donald McLean and Gerald Klingel, The Wednesday meeting was the fourth public hearing which was held on the proposed new ordinance. The first three were conducted by the Zoning Commission which spent about two years drafting the proposed ordinance. Meeting of the Ordinance mittee has been set for Dec. 5.

Citizens attending the session Wednesday were Charles Long, Ray Portella, Tom Halley, Edith Neudecker, Paul Eberhart, Calvin Hofeditz and Cliff Henke. AAUW Group Meets EDWARDSVILLE. "Andersonville," by Mackinley Cantee, and "The Last Hurrah," by Edwin O'Connor were the two books discussed at the American Association of University Wo men's Study Group Club nesday evening at the home of Mrs. James Williams, Mrs. H.

J. Moll and Mrs. Philip Farley reviewed the two books and following the review a group discussion was held, It was announced that the next meeting will be held Jan. 16, at the home of Mrs. Jon Kalivoda, Following the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostess.
