John J. Code, 88, pastor of St. Edmund's church in Oak Park since he founded it in 1907, will be said in the church at a. m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemetery. Msgr. Code, who died Saturday in the church rectory, 188 S. Oak Park will lie in state in the church today and tomorrow. The mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Wil liam D.

O'Brien, with Cardinal Samuel i assisting, preaching the and giving absolution. Once Met in Barn Msgr. Code played an im portant Dart in the growth of Oak Park. St. Edmund's was the first of the village's five Roman Catholic parishes.

The first services were held in a barn. The present church, a $100,000 edifice, was erected three years later in 1910, Born in Boston and edu cated at St. Mary's college in Baltimore and St. Ignatius' college here, Msgr. Code was ordained as a priest 1893 and then was appointed as sistant at St.

DEDICATE SITE FOR HOSPITAL'S RESEARCH UNIT Ground for a new $1,200,000 research pavilion of Michael Reese hospital medical was dedicated yesterday at 2312-18 Ellis av. The dedication was one of the events marking the 75th anniversary of the medical center. Nathan Cummings, chairman of Consolidated Foods corporation, was the principal speaker. The pavilion will be named in memory of Cummings' iate wife. Ruth.

Grant J. Pick, president of the Michael Reese board of directors, presided at the ceremony. The Cummings research pavilion will be adjacent, to and will connect with two other Michael Reese buildings, the Florsheim Medical library and the Nelson Morris Research institute. HIT- BY BULLET AS SHE WHEELS BABY IN A CART Mrs. Elsie Erickson, 26, living in route 1, Monee, was wounded in the neck yesterday by a bullet fired by one of two boys shooting at a target near her home.

She was taken io St. James hospital, Chicago Heights. Mrs. Erickson was wheeling her baby in a stroller, to home of a neighbor, when the bullet strucs her. Police said that John Marsh, 9, and Louis Weston, 12, who Live nearby, were shooting at a can on a fence post, about 700 feet from Mrs.

Erickson at the time. They were released to their parents. New 14 Special Owen Davis, 83, America's most proliiic and produced playwr i died yesterday after a long illness. Davis was recently released from New York where he had been a patient for three years. Mrs. Davis, the former Elizabeth Breyer of Salt. Lake City, and their son, Donald, a writer and television pro ducer, survive.

His brother, William Hammond Davis, and sister, Miss Perley survive. Pen Rarely Paused For more than 50 years Davis' pen rarely paused. And when it was busiest he could and did write a play and have it cast and before an audience in 24 hours. Davis was cred ited with more than 200 plays. Davis was born in Portland, Jan.

29, 1874, the son of Owen Warren' Davis and the former Abbie Gould. Davis -began his career in 1894, and wrote what he called popular priced a seemingly interminable list of perils and pitfalls in which the hero always triumphed over the villain and won the girl. When the old fashioned melodrama fell into discard, Davis switched his formula, credited his characters with sophistication, and moved into the drawing room.
