On the slightest pretext he can whip out his ever-ready gun and slay bis fellow man. ins young mtn should be educated to believe that tbe carrying of a pistol habitually is an act of cowardice. We have received from the New Or-. leans Picayune, tbe great Southern daily, a chart of the notable events of tbe year 1895, a beautiful calendar aud a tourists' guide book to tht City of New Orleans, all of which are very useful and 'good to have at hand. Tbe tourists' guide book to New Or leans contains forty four pages, with a map of the city and twenty-one illustrations of public buildings, monuments, etc.

This pamphlet will be of great benefit to visitors in New Orleans, and no one should be without it. The book will be mailed to any address for seven cents. The bill introduced by Senator Kiger into the State Legislature, at the request of the insurance convention held in Vicksburg in August last, is receiving considerable attention at the hands of those belonging to the insurance fraternity.

The bill is quit an elaborate one, and is intended to protect tbe interests of all the insured in the State, without at the same time imposing any particular hardship on the various companies operating in Mississippi. Trenton, N. Jan. 21. For the ffirst lime in thirty years New Jersey has a Republican Governor. As if to make up tor lost time the Republicans of the Blue Ribbon state strain ed themselves today to make the ceremonies attending the inauguration of Governor Griggs memorable in toe political history of the State.

Flags fluttered and banners waved all along the line of march and it is estimated 100,000 people from all parts of the state viewed the inaugural procession. Henry deputy auditor. No better selection could have been made for this important position than the appointment of Mr. Henry. When the lamented Sylvester Uwin was auditor Mr. Henry was given the potitlon of warrant clerk under him, and so eminently did be perform the duties devolving npon bim that hia cervices were at once recog nized and so apprecia'ed by Auditor Btone that he was reiaiued in this position.

Paul's Winter Carnival St. Paul, Jan. city full of merry-makers St. Paul's winter carnival was inaugurated with great enthusiasm today. The city is gayly decorated and hundreds of carnival costumes are to be seen.

Today the opening assault was made on Fort Karnival, the ice barracks, by llorealis Rex and the mow battle was witnessed by great crowdf whose enthusiasm know no bounds. Many crack skaters are arriving in the city to take pait in the championship events of the National Amateur Skat ing Association which will begin on Monday and continue for three days.
