Active preparations are being made for the celebration of 'the 200th anniversary of ho founding of Natchez, which will come in IDUi. It. is proposed to enlist, if possible, the aid of the stato legislature and make the centennial for the entire slate. The first capital of the state was located at Washington, six miles from Natchez, and Gov. Claiborne's home is still there.

Near it is Jefferson's Military College, which is just entering ort its 115th session. Among the features suggested for the celebration are a number of pageants, representing first the regime of the Natchez Indians, then the Spanish and French, the passing of the stale from a territorial government through the civil war period up to the present day.
