Red Cross Ramblings 'Tis the week before Christmas and all through the land The RED CROSS, as usual, is at your command! Year in and year out, it's the same story true Of a helpful RED CROSS, ever willing to do. That sort of sums up the many Red Cross activities that we hear about from time to time. Quite an enviable reputation, think so? Mrs. Irene Curtis, executive secretary, Rapides Parish Chapter of the American Red Cross extends a cordial greeting to all newcomers to Alexandria and vicinity. I am sure that all of you would enjoy a visit to local headquarters, 1808 8 08 08 08 Jackson avenue, where you are privileged to participate in volunteer projects you so desire.

Junior Red Crossers, bless 'em, are doing their share of playing Santa to less fortunate children in foreign lands. Our very own juniors have been planning and making two hundred educational gift boxes for shipment overseas. They contain many articles including a few toys, all of which will be greatfully received. You see. know that they are appreciated by these children in war-torn countries for I see thank-you letters telling how very much they mean to them.

A vote of "thanks" to the cardepartment the Central Louisiana Trade School where four dozen walking canes were made for distribution among patients at Veterans' Hospital. The cane handles were cleverly designed and beautifully finished. The Lanier class of the First Methodist Church recently rendered a valuable service by collecting used clothing for Red Cross. These garments are given to families whose homes have been destroyed by fire or other disasters and to other people who are facing emergencies. Perhaps you have some used articles of clothing on hand and you just don't realize the value of them.
